This is the Mama's second release and a great leap forward in their songwriting and production. The band haunts the beachy dives of Orange County, California, but you won't find any beach boys homages here. This album covers the musical spectrum from Dennis Roger Reed's wry, acoustic take on life, through gritty blues and New Orleans funk, to straight-ahead, radio-friendly rockers. Of particular note is the Mama's retooling of the Beatle's classic "Get Back" with a pulse that gets under your skin and defies your foot not to tap. Don't miss this album, and, if you're in Southern California, don't miss this band!
