A Pleasant Surprise..., May 11, 2003
This review is from: Pacific Moon Summer Collection (Audio CD)
It was something of a risk I took in purchasing a CD that I knew nothing about, other than it having an attractive cover. I need not have worried.
This collection of tracks from the Pacific Moon label is intended to relax and rejuvenate the mind. It does just that, through the lovely music that can be found here.
Highlights include Tracks 1, 2 and 7. I am very impressed by Jalan Jalan's contributions here. Their track "Sekar- Spirit of Plants" gets the CD off to a fine start with its appealing melody. And "Water Garden" is a simple but addictive track that seems to go round in loops, very much like the first track in Brian Eno's "Music for Airports". It is full of funny sounds, bbut I never tire of it, although some might find this 7+ minute track repetitive. I also love the second track, "Sunset Island" by Hae. It features some beautiful and highly melodic piano playing, and it really is the ultimate in relaxation, despite only being two minutes long!
There are a couple of vocal tracks here, which are definitely a required taste. A Japanese feel is evident throughout most of the disc. As with all Pacific Moon recordings, this CD is very well produced, with interesting cover notes, and the added bonus of Incense sticks- if you are that way inclined.
Whilst not outstanding, this is nonetheless, a very worthwhile addition to my CD collection and if you are in search of something that is enjoyable to listen to and yeta little bit different, then this CD might just be for you.
An enjoyable 65 minutes of original music, with 13 tracks. Recommended.
