Jarring Mayhem with Musical Precision and Powerful Grooves.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Pacifier (Reis) (Audio CD)
Nothingface makes the kind of metal that connects with fans of Korn, Deftones, Sepultura, Slayer and the like. If you like new breeds of metal and hardcore, you should absolutely listen to this band. They never rely on drum machines, DJs, or other elements of hip-hop and electronica - but the grooves are forceful, and intricate. The rhthym section pounds with precision and intensity - just listen to the opening of "Defaced", or the time keeping in "Self Punishment" and "Hitched". The vocals are scortched-earth, and the riffing is groove-core approved - low, chunky and intense. The production, while outstanding, lacks that certain major-label high-gloss that costs tens of thousands of dollars. You won't miss it though. A killer debut.

My favorite band,
By A Customer
This review is from: Pacifier (Reis) (Audio CD)
Nothingface is my favorite band for a number of reasons. Matt Holt has by far the best singing voice in the hardcore genre AND the best screaming voice in the genre. Second, the riffs that Tom Maxwell comes up with are absolutely mind-blowing. They are so complex and extremely catchy. This is one of the only bands that can go from absolutely sick & brutal parts right to very melodic, almost hypnotizing soft parts. This album is absolutely amazing, and Everyday Atrocity(if you can believe it or not) is even better. I was slightly disappointed by violence because matt's screaming voice isn't as brutal but the songs are still as well written as before.....And they are mind-blowing to see live, I've seen them 3 times and my mouth is watering for more...Go out and buy this CD then listen to it for a while, you will be amazed. You won't think it can get any better....then buy Everyday Atrocity, and listen to, what I believe is the best hardcore album ever.

WARNING: This Beats The Sh*t Out Of You!,

I was lucky to get a 10 dollar discount on this, because this was 18 bucks! Anyways, this album is a classic. "One Thing", the opener, is the perfect opener to this epic. "Pacifier" is a brutal track as well that pummels you down, and "Defaced" has some great guitar work to it. "Perfect Person" and "Undercut" beat you down and make you suffer, in a good way. This band has been labeled as a "nu metal" band. Well, this disc is in the vein of Korn's self-titled debut, but it is enhanced with more memorable guitar riffs. Nothingface isn't exactly nu metal, though. They are just straight-in-your-face metal that delivers. It sucks that they split, since I have never seen these guys in concert. :'( Oh well.
Even if you hate nu metal, you should give this a try.

this shows what metal still can be,

this is a great debut. basicly it shows no great innovations, but what does that these days... everything just fits. vocals are dark and nihilistic. the singer shows a good balance between screams, growls and normal singing, the riffing is tight and precise. the drumworks are good, also all songs show a great talent of songwriting. best songs: "one thing", "pacifier", "hitch", "self punishment". also get everything else by nothingface. all albums are great. other recommendations: machine head, ultraspank, spineshank

Absolutely Amazing!,

I first heard Nothingface from "An Audio Guide..." After I heard that CD, I HAD to check out Pacifier. These guys have everything that I'm looking for in music. They are excellent musicians that have a knack for writing catchy music. They often balance between soft (yet disturbing) lyrics and heavy metal growls. This is a must for any metal fans.

This debut album from hardcore band Nothingface is a must have for any hardcore or metal fan. If you're into bands like Korn and VOD you should do yourself a favor and buy this and any other Nothingface CD. Even if you hate Korn you should get this.

This is one of the coolest debut albums I have heard in a long time. These guys are the kind of band that you can listen to over and over again. Each song on the album ranges from style to style. The first song, "One Thing," is amazing. Killer track. The songs tend to get a little more melodic while still keeping it real. A totally underrated band that don't get nearly enough the attention they deserve.

THE WAY METAL SHOULD BE,
By Michael Crane (Orland Park, IL USA) - See all my reviews

For those who have lost faith in heavy metal from watered down, gangster imitators like Limp Bizkit, fear not. There is a new name in metal, and its name is "Nothingface". Nothingface is a hard-core metal group who takes metal to a new level. The album, "Pacifier", is filled with haunting and brutal songs like "Pacifier", "Lipsdick", "Undercut", and "Defaced". Every song on the album and intense and heavy, and is filled with heavy guitar playing, wicked drum playing, and haunting lyrics, singing, and screaming. These guys dont dress up like gang-bangers who are in it only for the money, these guys love what they do and put their hearts and souls into every sing song. Pick up "Pacifier" today, and also check out their other albums, "Everyday Atrocity", and "Violence". This a great album that shouldnt be missed by any hard-core metal fans...There is a new face in metal which you will never beat or never be better than. That face is "Nothingface", and theyre here to stay.

A good debut album,

This album is good but it could of been better. It could of used better production. But its still cool. Nothingface is my favorite band. But this is not my favorite album. I suggest buying "VIOLENCE" or "EVERYDAY ATROCITY" first, then get this.

Debut album re-invents heavy music.,

First off, let me say that I love all types of heavy music and have a very extensive collection. That said, Nothingface is my favorite band without question. They have a unique sound, the best extreme rock vocalist in Matt Holt, and killer songwriting abilities.
Pacifier is not their best album. I think it is their weakest overall, but that makes it better than 90% of the other bands out there. The major thing that is lacking is the production on this album. On their subsequent albums, you'll notice a huge difference in sound quality. This one sounds very raw, but for most of the album, that is a good thing. It has a very in your face, live sound to it. If you are just getting into Nothingface, I suggest starting at the beginning or get all four discs at once. |
