5.0 out of 5 stars "Choice", September 6, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Pacifier (Audio CD)
The band formerly known as Shihad has come out again and produced another excellent album. Pacifier's self titled album is a great rock out with some excellent riffs. Producer Josh Abrahams has obviously had an impact on the band and helped them make that fresh rock sound.
Pacifier have got everything perfect; rocky guitars, aggressive vocals, groovy bass and "old skool" drumming. But, Pacifier also produce some more melodic tunes like "Home" and "Walls" which are great chill out songs and can nod your head to.
Another dimesion to Pacifier is the confronting, meaningful lyrics such as "Nothing" - A tune about the pop music industry, and "Comfort Me" - About September 11.
An album you can listen to over and over without getting tired of(And excellent driving music!)

Pacifier is a great NEW ZEALAND band and this album should be on your must get list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, November 15, 2002

Nick (Sydney, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pacifier (Audio CD)
Critics here in Australia have been hailing this as the best album of the year, and its the truth, too. New Zealand outfit Shihad, who i must say i never really got into, are back with a new name and a new album and it is awesome. a great mix of heavy, angsty song like the first single "Comfort Me", "Run" and the brilliant "Stranger", great ballads like "Home" and "Comin Down", and great songs in between. This CD has been in my CD player since i bought it last month and it hasn't left yet. Bring on the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the best Shihad/Pacifier album yet!, August 19, 2002
This review is from: Pacifier (Audio CD)
When Shihad (as they were then known) announced to New Zealanders that they were leaving the southern hemisphere to conquer the States, public opinion was split into two schools of thought. The first group were sceptical, worried that the band might take a new formula different from the successful Hard Rock/Speed Metal line they had used for a decade in NZ and Australia. The other group were excited and proud. They saw it as only a matter of time before the four lads from Wellington made their mark in the biggest and toughest market of all. I count myself in the latter group and Pacifier/Pacifier proves that my faith was not misplaced.

The album as a whole is more mainstream than previous 'Had releases but this isn't neccesarely a bad thing. for me, this disc is a nice blend. Tracks like "Coming Down" (featuring Scott Weiland and DJ Lethal) and "Home" are obviously inspired by American influences but monster songs like "Semi-normal", "Bullitproof" and the single "Comfort Me" can easily match the likes of "You Again" or "My Mind's Sedate".

The album also lacks any filler material. While the outstanding Killjoy, and even The General Electric, had weak songs interspresed with masterpeices, a lot more thought seems to have gone into this album overall. "Trademark" is a perfect example. Although this song pales in comparison with the aforementioned killers, it is great when listened to by itself and Pacifer deserve credit for this.

Go out and buy this album if you're interested in Rock music at all. You won't be dissapointed. Ditto for fans of the band. Go the Had!
