Rock returns again,
By Pessimystica (Austin, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pacifier (Audio CD)
I actually caught the "Bullitproof" video on regular MTV.... can you believe that?! I was impressed, & soon after saw it for only $10 at the local cd store. I thought why not, I don't hardly buy new cds anymore cuz there's not alot of new bands that impress me anymore, *sigh*. So I gave this a few listens...So what do they sound like, you ask? Hard to put a finger on it...which is good! They're a mix of lots of 70s/80s/90s rock bands you already know & love, so at some point they'll remind you something. I've had this a few months now, & I still like it... no bad tracks in sight. My favorite track is definitely "Run". "Bullitprooof", "Semi-Normal", & the punkish "My Mind's Sedate" rock out, & are sure to please. Some tracks might slow down too much if you want it all to rock out, but hey, variety is good. There're too many bands out there that JUST rock out, & don't know how to do anything else BUT that... so at least these guys have a softer side, & the singer can actually sing instead of just scream. I'd say if you're a teenager & sick of this type of anti-lyrical rock of your generation that I just described, give these guys a listen. For everyone else, if you're assuming this band is one of those types of bands, then definitely give them a listen!! But if you're on this page, you've heard of them somehow though, & you probably know that already. The lyrics are actually worth noting too, & seem more thought-provoking & heart felt, as opposed to some random jottings that just happen to "fit", like most the bands out now. And if you're a nostalgic STP fan, then the last track will please you... My complaint with the cd is the enhanced part, which includes Bandlink...a program that may be problematic to run on some computers, & you can only watch the video if you're connected to the internet with a fast connection, of course. It would've been better if they had just included the video on the cd. It would've been cool to see it more often on MTV rotation too :-P Oh well, hopefully I'll catch em live soon.

Excellent from First to Last,
By Bubba Guitar (Staten Island, NY) - See all my reviews

I took a shot with this CD after seeing the video for "Bullitproof" on MTV. I bought it from the Columbia House or BMG music club for very little so I gave it a chance. And man, what a great surprise! This CD is top notch from beginning to end. The songs are all fully realized and run the gamut from all out frenetic rockers to slow tempo ballad type songs. The sound is excellent and the songs all stay in your head with great melodies both vocally and musically. A year after getting this album I still go back to it and can listen to it straight through, no song skips, from first to last. I mentioned this idea in another review of mine for the band 'Shinedown'. The true test of an album is can you listen to it all the way through on a long drive or does it grate on one's nerves or get boring or redundant. And I find this album passes the test with flying colors. Why these guys didn't catch on in America is one of those musical mysteries that will forever be around as to why some bands hit and others don't. But who cares, if you're considering adding this CD to your collection, I totally recommend. Later folks...

Best Rock CD In Years.,
By Rock God (USA) - See all my reviews

If a reviewer says the older Shihad albums are better then they're probably just into being different, cause there is NO WAY that's true. I'm not saying their bad, just can't compare to this. With the exception of My Mind's Sedate (which sounds like Shihad) and Coming Down, this cd rocks(as in hard rock) from beginning to end with a couple of slow songs that are also fantastic, even though Home gets slightly annoying at the end. Owes more than a little to the grunge era, but i'm not complaining, this is the kinda cd you have to wait years for. Classic.

Not as good as The General Electric, but still great,
By Nathan Hindmarsh (QLD, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pacifier (Audio CD)
With this album, Shihad changed their name, and also their style. Not much, it's just a lot cleaner than their previous works. This both adds and detracts from the songs on the album. On the rockier, earlier Shihad style songs such as "Just a Shadow", this cleanliness seems to take away alot of the traditional edge that Shihad have had. But on the singles "Comfort Me", "Run", "Bullitproof" and "Everything", it adds so much to the songs. Still, but "The General Electric" before you buy this album, it's alot better.
PS...to the reviewer who said this isn't original...you're an American so you wouldn't know it...but bear in mind that Shihad/Pacifier have been around, what, at least 10-15 years? They helped write the manual on this kind of rock

A Band thats come a long way...,
By Mitchell Haworth (Melbourne, Australia) - See all my reviews

These Blokes have been around for a long time! This album (Their 5th) Maybe their breakthrough album into the US Market is a cracker of an Album. When i first bought it , i actually didnt listen to it all that much, i just bought it because i was a fan, i have all the albums apart from Blue light disco E.P, which i cant find anywhere in Melbourne. I have recently listened to it, and i have to say i like it. I dont usually like commercial rock, but Shihad/pacifier can get away with it quite easily. They have a nack, and i dont think this is the last you will hear for these talented Kiwis. Their Music now, Commercial? yes it is, but is it good?.... Its fantastic.Like everyone else on this site, im going to recomend Killjoy. Churn is Great but a little overpowering sometimes. Killjoy is like nothing you have heard before, its different, you wont hear that sound again. And if you want to hear classic commercial rocken Shihad, Listen to their Self titled album, Its fantastic. I can say this! Im not sick of one of their albums and ive been a fan for 8 years. Buy it now!

Fantastic Album - sure to be a big hit,
By Matthew Ward (New Zealand) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pacifier (Audio CD)
Pacifier are gonna take on the world. The band formerly known as Shihad come from New Zealand with an already impressive amount of great cd's. Pacifier is their first international release, and it's great. Every song is powerful, and they're sure to be huge.1. Bullitproof - the great single with a catchy chorus and great guitaring. Cool song. 2. Semi-Normal - the heaviest song on the album. Really good. One of the best. 3. Comfort Me - a song written post-9/11 with really good lyrics and churning guitar. 4. Walls - the first of 3 mellow songs. Really good. 5. Stranger - good lyrics...tell a story. 6. Everything - GREAT chorus. Really good song. 7. Run - again, a really catchy chorus. 8. Nothing - a message about todays music industry. Great song. 9. Home - another beautiful mellow song sure to make anyone homesick. 10. My Mind's Sedate - an oldie and a classic. 11. Just A Shadow - GREAT song. Churning heavy verses, and a wonderfully melodic chorus. 12. Coming Down - a great acoustic closer with help from Scott Weiland and Dj Lethal. Beautiful. I fully recommend this cd to any music fan.

Not Shihad, But Still Very Good,
This review is from: Pacifier (Audio CD)
Pay no attention to last reviewer; must have had a bad day or stuck in the wrong CD. Pacifier CD is "Shihad" adjusting to main stream & US market, but is a very good album nonetheless. As always, the riffs are good and catchy and the lyrics better than most in this genre. Shihad rocked better (really recommend their last 2 CDs - G.E. and "Shihad" more), but Pacifier will catch on soon here. When it does, they will probably blow us away with the next one! Also, they are tremendous live - check them out!
