1.0 out of 5 stars Advice to deal with a problem that does not exist
This book mainly focuses on advice for "Christians" who have gay children. Though Johnson is compassionate and understands that homosexuality is not a choice, she is still unable to arrive at the conclusion that it is not really a problem unless ignorant, bigoted people make it one. 1.0 out of 5 stars Advice to deal with a problem that does not exist, September 30, 2008
This review is from: Pack Up Your Gloomies in a Great Big Box (Hardcover)
This book mainly focuses on advice for "Christians" who have gay children. Though Johnson is compassionate and understands that homosexuality is not a choice, she is still unable to arrive at the conclusion that it is not really a problem unless ignorant, bigoted people make it one. It is absolutely amazing, the reactions of these fundamentalists to their gay children, some threaten murder or suicide. To her credit, Johnson advises unconditional love. But the real question is, why do Christians focus on homosexuality as the mother of all sins? Jesus never mentions it. He mentions a lot of other sins that people like Johnson don't see as problematic, like becoming rich and waging war. Maybe Johnson should have focused on how to handle good Christian kids becoming stockbrokers instead! It's just so sad that these poor people's lives are being virtually destroyed by something as harmless as sexual preference. My advice to you if you're seeking advice on how to deal with your gay kid: get over it and focus on real problems Jesus actually discusses in the bible, like poverty, greed, and violence. Get a life, the world is way bigger than you think.
