Excellent book, highly recommended,

This review is from: Package Design Workbook: The Art and Science of Successful Packaging (Hardcover)
The book is very well done, and a treat to read. It's one of the few books we keep multiple copies of in the studio.
Having been in packaging design consulting for almost 15 years I've seen lots of publications that purport to be primers on the process. Most either frame packaging development as a metrics-driven endeavor best left to engineers OR as a craft-driven art form (do we need another book jacket made of twigs and berries?) having no grounding in commercial realities. This book on the other hand lives up to its sub-title, addressing the left and right brain thinking that goes into category-busting packages. The case studies are fresh and their histories clean and well-written. Whether you're in the design business and want inspiration or a marketer looking for insight, a great coice. - Scott www.studio111design.com

Nice resource book on packaging design,

There's a lot that goes behind package design. More than what I expected after reading the book. Package Design Workbook explains all the ins and outs of packaging design in depth.
The book is really split into three major portions although there are six chapters. The first portion talks about the history, art and science of package design. The second part provides the tools, tips and techniques. And at the back are thirty five case studies. Not just talking about package design, the book also address how it plays a part in the bigger picture for the company through branding. The authors Steven DuPuis and John Silva addresses a wide variety of factors contributing to good design. There are topics like the psychology of customers when choosing a product, creating a consistent style for future product lines, creating credibility, etc. There are lots of ideas to think about. This book is a good resource to go to for anything package design. - I've some pictures of the book on my blog, which you can find the address in the comments section.

I was required to purchase this book for my package design course at my university and I am real impressed with the layout and information in this book. The photography is excellent and the book contains Q/A interviews with famous designers which turn out to be very interesting and helpful. The price on Amazon was cheaper than at my university bookstore so I am happy.

Whether it is for inspiration or for guidance to maneuver through the process, you will not find a more pragmatic reference for the realities (and possibilities) of great package design.
It has been a valuable tool for us to help educate our clients, our sales teams, and our new team members. It will remain a permanent resource in our office. Thanks

I use this book as the textbook in my Package design class. I love it, because unlike most package design books, it gives you information instead of just pictures. There is a section that takes a company's package idea and goes through every step until it hits store shelves. Definitely a good book to own!

This is one of the best books on package design I've seen in many years.
Whether you are a student, junior designer, marketing professional, advertising executive, brand manager - or, anyone who will play any role in the package design process - this is a must-have reference. It should be required reading for the same list. I am founder and principal of my own package design firm for more than 25 years. Even so, this is a refreshing reminder of the "how and why" of what we do. The writing is to-the-point and without much of the useless design-speak one might expect. With high-quality images the book covers the entire process, reasoning and importance of packaging. Examples range from big-picture concepts to required details. Well-done.

I am a beginner. I do love this book. Not only has great quality printing but it also tells tons of knowledge of design, from basic designing history, market history, design concept to mind of consumer. This is my best choice this year. If you are looking for some book for improving your design knowledge. Can't miss this.

Pretty good info. It's good enough to share with my co-workers. The more we know as a team, the better our packaging will get!

This review is from: Package Design Workbook: The Art and Science of Successful Packaging (Hardcover)
This is a must for anyone seeking a start-to-finish look at the entire package design process. It is amazing how much thought and creativity goes into the design of product packages that we as consumers see everyday. The authors describe this process in a fun, graphical, easy-to-understand way and use real-world examples to make each point come to life and stay with you. As a technical manual, it is fun way to learn or reference the art and science of package design. A beautiful book, it could be a coffee table item and a great conversation piece as well!
