I love this book. The templates are amazing, but easy enough to alter into your own design. Sometimes as a student you need a starting point. My last project turned out amazing and I believe I'll use this book as a reference for along time. I am even interested in other books by this author and Rotovision Publishing. The pictures are great and the design on the packaging a lone is worth it. This book is one of my best if not the best design books I have and more affordable. I honestly would have paid more for this book. My classmates are also looking into buying this book after they viewed my copy. I believe this is a must in a design students library. It gives you inspiration and shows you what good package design is, believe me there are some terrible books out there.

I normally like to look and flip through books before I purchase them, but after seeing it's rave reviews I decided to go ahead and purchase the book.
It not only met my expectations as far as providing me with digital templates (which come in .EPS), but it surpassed my expectations by providing me with really inspirational package design ideas. I LOVE this book. The picture also does no justice to the quality of the book itself either. It is a very nice book. It is a necessity for anyone studying graphic design. BUY IT NOW!

Ineffective Templates,

I purchased this book and laser cut one of the templates, then tried to assemble it. I quickly realized that it was missing components. There were more tabs needed for the container to hold together that aren't in the templates. I added the needed tabs in Illustrator, recut it and tried to assemble it again. This time it held together, but the proportions were wrong and it didn't line up properly. So, I started looking at the other containers in the book. Several of them are missing tabs to keep them together. Other ones, if you compair the template to the packaging, they aren't the same. I think that they hired someone to reverse engineer the packaging into templates and they did a terrible job of it.
Also, there are lots of templates in the book that aren't that interesting or complicated. Designs that you definitely wouldn't need a book to tell you how to make.

I feel that the templates in this book can catapult some ideas. I don't recommend copying the designs from here exactly, but they can really help with the design and inspiration process. You may also get a good idea of how packages are put together and be able to create some great work of your own.

There aren't many templates in the book, but the photos are clear and imaginative. I have yet to try it on my electronic die cutter, as I got the first copy for my son. He's in graphic design and he really liked it. However, the few templates I have tried and cut/scored by hand have been accurate. You might want to consider it for making Christmas packages or outstanding portfolios.

This book is a must have for all design students, and is a definite must have for all designer/bookmakers/creatives library. The templates are great and the disk that includes .ai files of the templates is the most useful thing I have ever purchased to aid in package design. Absolutely worth every penny, and the price is great!

I figured that this would be a useful book when I ordered it, but I was more than pleased after examining it closely after it arrived. Not only is it a great selection of packaging designs and templates, the introduction provides extremely clear information on both materials and packaging terminology. An individual with no previous experience in cardboard container design should be able to use the information in this book to (at the very least) explain clearly what they require to a box manufacturer.
As a packaging designer, I am very pleased with my purchase. |
