In each chapter of the new adventures of Paddington, the lovable bumbling bear is somehow the center of attention on a televisionshow. It all begins when Paddington is the winner of a baking contest on his favorite TV show. But his luck runs out when his cake rises so much that it cannot be removed from the oven. So Paddington frosts the entire stove as well as the cake inside! Then he investigates a robbery at a health center, where he is pummeled, vibrated, steamed and finally rescued by his family, the Browns. Next, he is a last-minute replacement on a TV tennis exhibition, And finally Paddington finds himself on stage playing the non-speaking role of a fly in a Brownie play. As always, Paddington-with a hard stare and hot retort-emerges from each disaster none the worse for wear.

illustrations are by Ivor Wood, not Peggy Fortnum,

The stories in this book are, as usual for a Paddington book, entertaining. All feature the British television show Blue Peter in one way or another. My only complaint is that the Amazon listing for the paperback version (ISBN 0618250719) says the illustrations are by Peggy Fortnum (whose drawings I prefer), but it turns out they're actually by Ivor Wood. My two-year-old daughter loves the book no matter, though.
