Book Description

April 1999
Paddle America is a nationwide guide to outfitters offering canoe, kayak, sea kayak, and raft trips. The most comprehensive book of its kind, Paddle America is now in its fourth edition, completely updated and enhanced with 766 detailed outfitter listings. New in this edition are maps of each state, with grids showing each outfitter's location.

Each state chapter has an overview of the state's waters best suited for paddling. These descriptions are followed by outfitter listings that detail what each company offers: - the kind of trips available (canoe, kayak, sea kayak, raft)
- waters used and trips offered, with rapids classified by degree of difficulty
- local scenery, wildlife and fishing
- location on the state map; phone/fax numbers; and mail, e-mail and Web addresses.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

This directory is a compilation of more than 400 canoeing, rafting, and kayaking outfitters in all 50 states. While advertised as the first nationwide directory of river trips and outfitters, it cannot be considered complete (some of this reviewer's favorites are not included). Outfitters are listed by state. Information includes waterways serviced by the outfitter and the maximum class of difficulty of the rapids along each waterway. This information will prove especially useful for paddlers planning river trips away from their localities. While not an essential purchase, this book should be considered for large canoeing collections. The publisher will contribute a portion of the proceeds for river conservation.

This book is really about outfitters. If you want to plan your own trip, don't bother with this book. It doesn't help you plan your own trip.
