More About the Author

Jo-Anne Mason (born August 17, 1953) lives on the Caribbean island of Anguilla. Her first book, Paddy The Goat that Saved Anguilla is about a goat who saves the island from a hurricane. Since then she has written about a tricky monkey who lives on the island of Nevis and a hermit crab who lives in Sint Maarten/St. Martin. Her next book due this fall is about a geeko that takes a strange trip. She loves creatures of all kinds, even bugs so she uses them as the characters in her books.
Her books try to capture the spirit of each island and the kindle books contain an additional section about the island and creatures in the story to give the reader information about the Caribbean.
Jo-Anne is a digital illustrator and uses a computer and a digital draw pad to create all of her illustrations.

Paddy The Goat That Saved Anguilla by JoAnne Mason is a charming story that teaches children not to judge others for what they can't do but to recognize that everyone has potential to do great things.

Paddy is born on the Island of Anguilla, but Paddy is different that the other goats. Paddy is unable to speak. The head goat tells Paddy's mother that if he is unable to speak by his first birthday he must leave the herd. Sadly, Paddy's first birthday arrives and he is still unable to baa like the other goats. He says his goodbye to his mother and sets out on his own. Lucky for Paddy he meets a kind lizard who teaches him that being unable to speak is a gift and should be used wisely. Paddy soon begins to really listen to the island and all those who inhabit it and is one of the first to realize a hurricane is on its way. Paddy must save his friends, but can he save them all without his baa?

The illustrations in Paddy The Goat That Saved Anguilla add to the excitement as the story unfolds. Children will cheer for Paddy as he tries to rescue everyone that lies in the in hurricanes path.

I loved the important message conveyed in the story and children will learn that even though we are all different we each have a special place in the world.

This beautifully illustrated book tells a story of a goat who finds himself a hero plus informs the young reader a bit about hurricanes and also the beautiful island of Anguilla. My grandchildren ask me to read it to them over and over when I visit!

I was delighed when I first picked up Paddy the Goat and realised that not only was it a book about Anguilla - but it was a quality book about Anguilla. The book has delightful images and a storyline with a great message. Goats are everywhere in Anguilla - on the side of the road, next to bars - and are very iconic for visitors. I was happy to find a gift I wanted to share - so I used to buy copies on my regular visits to Anguilla to take home for nieces, nephews and my friends children. Now I live here and I still love the book - and ALWAYS recommend it to visitors. Recently I met a tourist who had heard about the book before she came on Vacation - I told her the Author lived on island and may be available to sign the copies - she was so happy. I got hold of the Author - Jo-Anne Mason - and she arranged to meet and sign the books for the lady who was a school teacher. It made her vacation.

I recently visited Anguilla. I have never met nicer people while traveling. If you have never gone....put this place on your must visit list!

I teach Kindergarten and intend to use this when I teach children about finding the best in others, courage, and not being afraid to be themselves. The illustrations alone could carry an art unit for miles. This is just one more example of how beautifully Mrs. Mason combines character lessons, art, and nonfiction!

So impressive! Just like Anguilla!

Paddy and Anguilla are both very special, Paddy for his good sense and Anguilla for it's out of the way location and easy-going life, surrounded by the blue ocean. So Paddy tells his tale and children all over will fall in love. I have read all three of Jo-Anne's books and read them to my grandchildren. The stories have meaning, the illustrations are gorgeous, and the animals are charming. I love using local animals to tell the stories and I love that there is a lesson to learn as well. The perfect books!

This is a delightful book for readers of all ages. It makes a perfect gift for children and would be a fun coffee table book as well. The author's illustrations of Paddy and the others in the story are beautifully done. The story is informative about hurricanes and Caribbean islands and is thought provoking for children in the areas of social interaction, separateness, and inclusion. It's a heartwarming story, well worth buying for gifts or for yourself.

I own an art shop and welcomed carrying Jo-Anne's 1st book, PADDY THE GOAT THAT SAVED ANGUILLA, when it was published. It was very popular from the beginning. Then, out comes TRIXY THE MONKEY THAT ATE NEVIS and I recall that the two books mostly sold together. Jo-Anne's latest book, THE PERFECT SHELL, is equally enchanting and to my delight, customers buy all three books at once! It is a wonderful collection for the whole family.
