Book Description

May 1, 2009
The fascinating life story of Padre Pio, with emphasis on his life as a seminarian, young priest and his early years at San Giovanni Rotondo. From this small, remote mountain friary, he became world famous and exercised unbelievable influence on the entire world, though he was soon forbidden by his superiors to preach, to correspond or to write. Covers his early work with Mary Pyle, and with the American GIs who came to visit him during WWII when his part of Italy was liberated. Padre Pio developed a special love for America and Americans - to the point that he wished that all Americans would become his spiritual children. This book demonstrates his amazing sense of humor, his prayer and fasting, his uncanny knowledge of people (even before they visited), and his profound supernatural awareness. In sum, Padre Pio and America will instill a profound awe in readers over the impact a truly saintly priest can have on all who come into contact with him!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Book I Have Been Waiting For, February 4, 2006
This review is from: Padre Pio and America (Paperback)
See my "Happy Loumim" review of "The Holy Man on the Mountain, Padre Pio and the Americans Who Discovered Him."
PADRE PIO AND AMERICA is a new TAN edition of that book, but even better because of photographs, which of course intensify the whole experience. You'll enjoy meeting these Americans (some of whom I knew)--so graced to have discovered Padre Pio on that mystical mountain long before the rest of the world heard of him. I wish you well reading this...

5.0 out of 5 stars This book will draw you closer to Jesus, June 22, 2007

This review is from: Padre Pio and America (Paperback)
Frank Rega's book on Padre Pio will take you into an intimate look with a soul united to God. Through his sufferings, Padre Pio became conformed to Christ, not only spiritually, but physically as well. His closeness to Christ was seen through his sufferings, which he united to God's own suffering, to help save souls from destruction. Padre Pio's love for soldiers gives me great consolation, since I have a son serving in Iraq. As a lay Franciscan, I pray to him daily to intercede for my family, and to portect, watch over, and guide my children to Jesus.. Thank you, Frank, for writing such a wonderful book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Offers a Fresh Look, March 28, 2010
This review is from: Padre Pio and America (Paperback)
I have read more than one book on the life of Padre Pio, what makes this book different is that it relates many stories about the GIs who met Padre Pio during World War II. After providing background information about his life, Rega shares many stories about the Americans who met him during World War II and kept in contact with him afterwards. Not just a story about meeting the man, but how these men's lives were dramatically changed by him. If you want to learn why so many people have a devotion to Padre Pio, this would be a good book to read.
