Blessed Padre Pio, humble peasant and world-famous stigmatist, spoke simple words of Christian encouragement and inspiration to all who approached him seeking counsel. This biographical sketch and collection of memorable sayings is a compact and accessible introduction to the life and mesage of one of the great religious figures of the 20th century. Born Francesco Forgione on May 25, 1887, at Pietrelcina in southern Italy, Padre Pio joined the Capuchin Order in 1903 and was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1910. On September 20, 1918, he received the sacred wounds of Christ, which medical science could not explain and which he bore until just before his death. Although he did not leave his monastery and was for much of his life under obedience not to write or preach, this humble monk was renowned for his piety, his wise counsel, and his miracles. Padre Pio died in 1968 and was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1999.

One of the best readings with information I've had in a long time. It also shows the "personal" and intriging thoughts and views of Father Pio. Very informative! Father Pio's is one which many people, would not believe, could ascertain his "miracles" or, being able to be in several places....at the same time!! He was one of a "very few" "Saints" of modern era. His life was solely devoted to God!! And, God presented him with many great "Graces!" I definitely strongly recommend this book to everyone.

A Book I Read Everyday,
By
This review is from: Padre Pio: In My Own Words (Hardcover)
Padre Pio of Pietrelcina has been an inspirational force in my life and this book captures quotations which remind us about who we are and what we are to God. The book covers quotes from letters that he directs to some of his ardent followers including his close confidants like Padre Agostino and Raffaelina Cerase, a noblewoman and his spiritual daughter. Together with the book on Padre Pio by Bernard Ruffin, I have never let these books stray from me.
One of the quotations I found in this beautiful book was a quotation to The Ventrella Sisters: "Spin a little every day, thread by thread weave your design until it is finished and you will infallibly succeed. But be careful not to hurry, because you will tangle the thread with knots and confuse the spindle. Therefore advance always, and even if you progress at a slow pace, you will still travel far." ....these words inspire me and tell me to try everyday. Thank you Padre Pio... |
