Talking heads...,
By Currer Bell (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Padre Pio Sanctus (DVD)
Sadly, I add my review to those who are saying this DVD is a disappointment.
I bought this DVD because I buy every new video about Padre Pio, who I greatly admire. I had high hopes for this DVD and also gave one to someone else. Its positives are: You will at least be able to see some of the places St Pio lived as a child. Also positive: This documentary has an option to hear the audio in other languages, not just in English. On the negative side: Most of the documentary consists of 'talking heads'. The way they filmed this, somehow makes everything seem dull, and St Pio's life and story are anything BUT dull, believe me!! This man had many miracles associated with his prayers; and many charisms (miraculous abilities) and blessings. Part of the problem with this video seems to be that after each segment, you must go and find how to play the next one. I don't recall a way to simply watch the entire thing. Even talking heads can be entertaining if they seem excited about the topic; I have seen videos about this saint, in which people who met him, or knew someone who did, talked excitedly about a miracle which took place, etc. But somehow, this video left me feeling quite bored and sadly disappointed. Please, please, someone make a film about Saint Pio which is truthful (this one is truthful - just somehow dry) and inspired and of quality. There are very good documentaries out there but I agree, the time has come, let's see a movie about this GREAT saint. For those who wish a video about him, there are many very good documentaries on VHS, many with real film clips of Saint Pio taken at his final mass or as he blessed people in a corridor, etc. Put with scenes of his childhood plus stories told by those who met him, videos of Saint Pio can be wonderful. This one, sadly, isn't it. I'm so sorry to say!!!! Hopefully other videos will be made available on DVD soon.

Great Soul - Pity about the Video,
By
This review is from: Padre Pio Sanctus (DVD)
I have been interested in the life of great souls for almost half a century now. I look forward to gaining more insight into their spirituality, with a view to increasing my own insight and devotion; I am not merely a cruiser through "the lives of the blessed." When I saw this volume advertised, I naturally jumped at the chance to share its insights. However, I was disappointed to find it to be of the genre of "pop" holiness commentary. You could forgive the schmaltzy crooning and guitar background and the dulcet-soft commentary if only some insight into the great men's spiritual life had been imparted. Not to be - the script might as well have been written for "Journeys in Middle Italy" for all the penetration into Padre Pio's life it afforded! Not for the earnest! Not even for the casual browser!

Disappointing,
By Janina "Janina" (canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Padre Pio Sanctus (DVD)
This story of a man so close to Jesus could be a blockbuster film if it had the talent of those in hollywood to produce it. Anyone in the world who actually took the time to learn of his life and miracles would be transformed. We need some talent like Mel Gibson to proclaim his life to the world. This DVD makes it a complete bore. Sorry to say but it is the truth.
