This Album is Simply Brilliant!! Muy,
By
This review is from: Pafuera Telaranas (Audio CD)
I've had this album for only a few days, have listened to it end to end maybe three times.. and all I can say, is that it's completely freakin' brilliant. Gypsy alternative folk rock, gently patinated with punk & flamenco. Singer-songwriter dance-pop. Simply sublime.
Dug up some bio info that'll I share (save you the google): Bebe- aka Nieves Rebolledo Vila - was born in Valencia Spain in 1978. Her parents are members of the Extremaduran folk group Surberina. So she grew up surrounded by music & musicians, and got into the music scene in Madrid as a teen. This is her first big album, though, and it's made her a star in the Latin music scene. She was nominated for five Latin Emmies for this, and the aforemention Malo was a huge international hit single. She sounds a lot like Natalia LaFourcade (but with rather better pop hooks,) with Julieta Venegas' hipness.. Her lyrics and themes can be edgy and political. 'Malo,' her big hit (though not, by my lights, the best song on this album) is a bit of a bruiser. And as for those titillating forbidden lyrics, they're all en Espanol folks, in keeping with the themes rather than gratuitous (at least to my sensiblities.) Put it this way: this isn't Too Live Kru or Muttly Crew or anything untarded & paleoanderthal like that. If you can handle, say, Alanis Morissette, this material won't annoy you. [...] But no mind.. this girl is class, she's tart & smart, a tad saucy bout the edges. Summation: Lo Quiero Mucho. Dig it lots, and this is just the beginning. This is in the near vicinity of Simon & Garfunkel or James Taylor good. (In all seriousness, she's in that good: classic, catchy pop; interesting themes; musically thematically complex & varied, with good lyrics..) It will probably take at least a decade and a half of constant pummeling before I get sick of it. I look forward to the mauling. Buy it. Pronto. Cinquo estrellas +++.

Transcends age, language, culture, definition, and explanation!,

I had purchased a compilation album that included Siempre Me Quedara, and I liked the song when I first heard it, but I didn't pay much attention to it. Then I found myself singing it all the time, and needing to listen to it first every time I got in the car.
Becasue of that, I bought Bebe's album and I am sooooo glad I did!! That was months ago, and I still listen to it all the time. Interestingly, a lot of the other songs grew on me the same way that Siempre Me Quedara did--I'll hear them and then not listen to them for a while, but then return to them later and love them so much! Just a few days ago, I rediscovered Men Senara which is my current favorite. I've lent my CD to many of my friends, Spanish speakers and non-Spanish speakers alike, and everyone loves it! The lyrics are so beautiful that it's a shame if you can't understand them, but you can definitely still enjoy the music. Also, the friends I've lent it to range in age from 24 to 44, and their reactions were all similar. This is definitely not an album made for just one specific age group. A quick note: Get this version of the album, rather than the other one you'll find on Amazon. The difference is that you get two extra songs on this one that don't appear on the original... I think that this one is the re-release for American audiences, but I could be way wrong on that. Que Nadie Me Levante la Voz is a great song that you won't find on the version with only 13 songs. My only problem is that I want more!!! Please, Bebe! Release another album SOON!! :)

I saw Bebe perform over the summer, and that was the first time I had ever heard of her. But she is incredible. She was running around and dancing and having a great time and really worked the crowd. She has a great voice and her songs rock - it doesn't matter if you understand Spanish or not, because as she says, Music is universal. I love the songs, they're great to move to and she sings with so much passion that you get the message. I effing love Bebe!

the best cd of the year!,

I love this cd. I saw her video "Malo" for the first time on Mun2, it was so simple, yet so powerful, her face, her voice, the pain wow!!!. Since that day I searched for her on itunes planning just to download one song, yet when I listened to the other clips there was not one bad song! so I ended buying the whole album and it was worth it. Finally a great new artist with original songs and great melodies... I am so tired of the Thalia's, Paulina's etc etc. that seem to take the most attention in the Spanish Media here in the US.
Excellente Job BEBE.

I dont speak one word of spanish but Im am for some reason into latin music. I have recently purchased Shakira, and Thalia - El Sexto Sentido and some other new english albums but NONE can conpare to this album.
Almost every song is just great to hear. Words cannot describe this album. You must listen to the songs for yourself. I would highly recommend this album to ANYONE who is a fan of music. My favorite tracks are: 1. Men Senara (8/10) 4. Siempre Me Quedara (7.5/10) 5. Malo (10/10) 6. Ska De La Tierra (9.5/10) 7. El Colpe (7.5/10) 11. Siete Horas (8/10) Thats right I have 6 favorite songs from just one album.

Best Spanish CD of the year,
By Maria Gruending (Ottawa, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: BEBE PAFUERA TELARAĆ'AS (Audio CD)
This is a fantastic CD - well worth a listen for everyone whether or not you speak Spanish. Bebe's voice is enchanting but her lyrics are fierce, especially when dealing with social issues in Spain, like wife-beating. Her music is the perfect mix of traditional Spanish guitar with more modern sounds.

I love finding CDs and artists like this. I was channel surfing the cable and decided to stop on MTV Espanol for awhile, mostly because a video with a very fine young Latina was on, what can I say...Later on, a video out of nowhere comes on from someone named "Bebe", the song was "Malo". Wow! Very intense performance, and after getting the CD, I can happily report it is all good. The sound quality of the CD is excellent, the performances are varied and interesting. I really can't recommend this CD highly enough. Hoping for more output from this artist in the future.

This cd is amazing! the artist is from the south of Spain and this is heavily reflected in the music. She is also a child of today and subsequently mixes many musical styles. Most notably on the "SKA de la tierra" track there is some great reggae mix. the overall message is far from "girl power" which you might think from her tiny voice. she has some very powerful themes which include independence and escaping spousal abuse. i totally recommend it. this is one of the few new cds i own where i actually love almost every single track equally.

I went to Spain last summer, and saw her perform in the Metro Rock concert in Madrid - I had never heard of her before, had no idea who she was, just knew she was the headliner for the evening. She absolutely rocked my world! Her voice, her energy, her emotion - mesmerizing! This girl is truly amazing and she's so eclectic. Her style doesn't fit into any single category - she's pop, rock, flamenco, ballad, feminist...and that's just a generalization. This album is very catchy, and each song has something different to offer - there are fun, playful songs, serious criticisms of society, mournful songs of heartbreak, this CD has it all, and she more than pulls it off. A superb, extremely talented artist by any standards. I recommend this CD to everyone, you won't be disappointed. I've owned it for a year and still listen to it ALL the time - it's one of my top 10, and I'm not even a fluent Spanish speaker, so that's saying something.
