This book contains so much information, suggestions, exercises, and rituals that I can hardly believe it! It is so much more than your usual holiday ritual and decorating book. 2.0 out of 5 stars very basic
I must say that the more books aimed at pagan parenting the better, but this book is definately geered more toward the parent who is new to paganism and parenting. It has many cute ideas and activities to do with kids. If you are a seasoned parent or pagan, this book will simply be old news.

This book contains so much information, suggestions, exercises, and rituals that I can hardly believe it! It is so much more than your usual holiday ritual and decorating book. The sections on the development of energy systems and how that affects our kids was something I have not seen anywhere else. The sections on altars and games for kids were awesome and the parts on community and legality were very informative.

What I really like is that the author doesn't try to tell parents what we should be doing. I don't need anyone else to tell me what my kids need. What I need are recommendations and to hear how other pagan parents are including their kids and facing their challenges. I felt like I was talking to a good friend that wanted to offer possibilities but supported my choices and encouraged me to trust myself and my kids. The back of the book has contacts and websites and recommended reading that really helped me realize that I have opportunities to connect with other pagan parents out there just like me.

5.0 out of 5 stars FABULOUS, EVEN WHILE BABY STILL RESIDES IN WOMB!, December 10, 2001
This review is from: Pagan Parenting: Spiritual, Magical & Emotional Development of the Child (Paperback)
I love this book! I am a first time mom of a 10 week old, and wish I had found this book sooner! There are meditations to connect with your unborn child, to help prepare for birth, as well as beginning journeys for children! The ceremonies are great for kids of all ages. I shared this with a 9 year old pagan friend who couldn't wait to share it with her mom and do the family rituals. There are bedtime prayers, grace, songs for sabbats...WONDERFUL!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended!, September 2, 2001

This book is surprisingly good for its small size. The author covers quite a wide range of topics, obviously supporting families in making the right choices for their individual families. I appreciate the emphasis on keeping any exercises you do with children fun and light as well a the suggestion that you follow the the child's feelings and instincts; not forcing a child into anything and allowing them to make their own choices. I also appreciate the fact that this author does not avoid potentially controversial topics. They are tackled head on. She offers first-hand experience from a variety of parents and children.

My favorite aspect of this book is the fact that it is written for all pagans. When reading strictly wiccan books, many of the rituals, spells, etc don't fit my family. This book offers a wider range of suggestions and games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for beginner parents too, October 28, 2001

I'm relatively new to all of this and am still figuring out how to explain things to my kids. Not only did this book help me with that, it also helped me understand alot of the things I have been reading and hearing about. Now that I am clearer, my explanations to my kids are clearer. It is a fantastic overview of paganism from a basic level and I REALLY appreciate that.

Also, the exercises and games are great for kids, but I have fun with them too and I find that my abilities are strengthened in the process.

Great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT book, September 13, 2001

This book should be on every pagan parent's bookshelf. I wish other parents would look at it too. It covers so much that is of real importance to those of us raising kids in pagan families in today's world. One of the best books I've read yet!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, July 11, 2001

I loved this book so much that I just came back to buy one for a friend. I found this book to be incredibly supportive of the diversity among pagans. Nowhere did she say anyone should do or believe anything. In fact, I thought she went out of her way to encourage parents to find their own ways and follow their own hearts, using her suggestions and the experiences she shared (not just hers) as a place to start.

She wrote that she included the sections on abortion because it is a fact of life for many people and healing that pain is often important. I looked and could not find anywhere that said anyone should be pro-choice.

One of my favorite things about this book is the fact that she is so encouraging and supportive. She nevers says you need to believe her or see things her way - she does just the opposite in some places. Other than that, I really loved the questions and healing chapters, which is why I'm buying another as a gift.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pagan Parenting, January 11, 2007

I'm really enjoying this book. There aren't a lot of places for people to go for advice on educating children about alternative spiritual practices. My child is autistic and we've spent so much time on basic life skills that we had forgotten about the most important part of his development, his spiritual development. This book is really helpful in that area.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the better parenting books, September 16, 2005

This book takes a totally different approach compared to other popular wiccan or pagan parent books. It has good, thought provoking things about your child from the moment of conception through thier developmental years. It has good ideas and ways to figure out where your child is spiritually and how to connect with them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warm and Friendly, September 5, 2001
This review is from: Pagan Parenting: Spiritual, Magical & Emotional Development of the Child (Paperback)
Reading this book was like sitting down over coffee with a good, very knowledgeable friend. Health and Healing and the elements exercises were my favorite parts, along with the huge resources section. I also appreciated the FYI about pagan gatherings. I haven't been to one yet but I am thankful to have a glimpse into what happens so I and my kids can be prepared.

I'd recommend this to everyone and anyone.
