Rev. Gina M. Pace is a true tarot expert teacher!,
By Monte Farber & Amy Zerner (New York, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pagan Tarot Kit (English and Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
Reverend Gina M. Pace is a tarot reader who other tarot readers not only respect but also consult. I was delighted to learn that "Wicce," as she is also known on her famous website .com website of the same name, had put her wisdom down in a book. I strongly urge anyone interested or expert in the tarot to buy the LS (Lo Scarabeo) Pagan Tarot Kit. My name is Monte Farber and I am, with my wife, Amy Zerner, the creator of "The Enchanted Tarot," "The Instant Tarot Reader," "Zerner/Farber Tarot Deck" and the new "True Love Tarot." Tarot is our love and bringing it to life for all is our life and I know the same is true for Rev. Pace. She's the real deal!

I bought the Pagan tarot kit and was so happy with my purchase. I could totally relate to the pictures in the deck - it is a journey of a modern day pagan woman...the pictures and the illustrations are quite everyday images of what one goes through in one's life as a believer in Nature Magic. It is a deck that every reader of today must have!
However, a few cards left me stunned - like the Chariot, the seven of swords and the ten of swords - the meanings are quite contrary to what one sees in other decks. But I suppose in this deck, this was how the journey was meant to be! A deck for all modern day tarot readers who go through the various seasons of modern day living and working and relating...See it to believe it!

I only gave these cards a "3" due to how the product is represented. I bought these cards for a friend that was just starting out. I thought this was suppose to be a "set" as shown in the picture as in she would be getting: the cards, the book, AND the pouch to hold the cards in. Imagine my surpise when she opened her gift to find only the cards and the book! NO pouch is included in this set what-so-ever! If you are going to show a picture as to what comes in a set, you should include ALL the items, not just part. So buyer beware!

Very different....,
By Heggy's Kitten (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews

To say that this is an unusual Tarot deck is somewhat of an understatement! Initially when I bought it (having only seen the cover art on the box which looked favourable) I was quite shocked to see some of the images on the cards (more on this in a moment) and very rather disappointed in that I had bought a "duff" pack. For a "Pagan Tarot" this was certainly not what I had envisaged or expected.
This pack would appear at first glance to be two totally different decks mixed up together! To clarify what I mean, take the Magician card for example (as pictured on the box) showing a woman in a cloak kneeling down amidst what looks like gnarled roots of trees bathed in moonlight, with traditional items such as book and pentacle on the ground beside her. This is an image that I found quite "in keeping" with my expectations, not just because it was on the box but because it fitted with the mental images that my mind had drummed up of what a "pagan tarot" would be like. A young woman in the woods working with the powers of nature. So far so good. However, I would say that one third of the deck contains images such as this where you can clearly see that it is a pagan (with the emphasis on Wiccan) theme that is being represented. But then you turn to another card - the Chariot for example...and hang on a minute!! It shows a modern (if not completely up to date) image of a CAR. Yes, a car. Not a majestic horse drawn chariot, or even one pulled by various mythical beasts or infact anything to suggest the traditional feelings of speed and travel or a decision over which direction to take. I have to admit the first time I saw this card, I just stared at it blankly...how did this get into the deck? About another third of the cards in the pack have modern day seemingly "out of place" images on them such as shops and computers. (Have a look at the wheel of fortune card for the ultimate in "What the?!!!" factor the first time you look at it! )In fact, as previously mentioned, this makes the pagan tarot feel like two decks mixed into one. The final third of the deck seems to combine elements of both of the above e.g a modern scene but with robed figures in the scene aswell as plain clothed people etc. The reason that some of these images were "shocking" was not so much the actual content of the images themselves (such as sexuality or death) but the fact that every time I came across a "modern" image after soothing my mind with the more expected ones was that it was like a jolt to the senses, suddenly bringing you back into the modern world with a bump. I thought about this for quite a while (whilst alternatively disliking the pack then finding another image that drew me in) until suddenly some of the cards stopped feeling quite so "off" and I started looking at the modern young girl in them and imagining doing some of the rather boring every day things she appeared to be doing, and I realised that this is exactly the whole point of this deck. Sometimes many of our ideals become so rooted in how our wonderful and vibrant imaginations want them to be, that we cease to see the Chariot, the Tower or the Lovers in the many guises that they can actually appear in our own lives. Not only are they abstract ideas and archetypes to help us understand the inner workings of our mind, but if we do not directly relate them to our everyday reality "out there" we may feel somewhat isolated from what a deck of cards is showing us and how and what it really means in "real life". While this deck can be seen as alternatively either visually soothing (soft muted colours) or disturbingly odd, this is actually a deck that helps one to question many of our pre-conceived notions about what something "should" be depicted as, and perhaps we tend to get a little too used to always having traditional interpretations for cards, sometimes to the point that some of these traditional cards may even become a little tired. If you are feeling in need of something that departs quite radically from the Tarot norm, then this deck is sure to give you the cold shower - whether you then feel chilled and disturbed and hate the deck, or whether its differentness is something that you will find refreshing and awakening is not for me to say. As a final note, don't get me wrong, for as someone who is a collector of tarot decks and as a pagan myself, I still love all the vivid and mythically themed bright cards of other decks very much, and whilst I would not count this deck as being among my favourites, it has certainly grown on me, if I want to get another perspective on something or just challenge myself with these very different cards. I have given this deck 3 stars, but it probably deserves 3 and a half. Or perhaps 4 on a good day and 2 on a bad day. That is the way this deck affects me. It is different things on different days. Just like the cards within the deck are different, reflecting life as it really is, not always our conceptions of what it should be like.

A deck that I can truly identify with!,
By Amy "Knitting, Book-Loving Witch" (Portland, OR) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pagan Tarot Kit (English and Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
I am absolutely in love with this tarot deck. The first time I read the description of it, it didn't sound that interesting--computers, cars, modern life--don't I get enough of that on a daily basis already? But I searched the internet for images of the deck, and the more I saw, the more I liked it. Now that I have it, I love it more each time I work with it.
The depictions are of a modern witch living a modern life--and that's exactly why it speaks to me. There are two cards depicting her at her job--sitting at a desk, talking on the phone, working on paperwork--what many of us also do every day. I can relate! And suddenly, I see my job from a more spiritual perspective--how can I bring my spirituality into my work? How can I make the mundane more spiritually fulfilling? Some reviewers have not liked the muted color scheme. I find it very soothing, and sort of dream-like--it feels like you can really walk into the scene and become a part of it. Others have commented that the Tower card, showing two naked, groping couples in the background while the fully-clothed witch walks away looking distressed, doesn't make any sense. Who among the pagan community haven't had our faith shaken by witnessing behavior that we did not feel we could participate in or condone in people we had formerly trusted and respected? That seems like a perfect Tower card to me! It definitely helps to have the companion book that comes as part of the kit--the author brings out elements of the story that I did not see on my own. However, the cards are also extrememly easy to interpret intuitively, although both the author's and your own interpretations may not match the "traditional" meanings of each card. Many of my own interpretations also do not match the author's interpretations, but that's okay--I can go with my instinct with those cards, and in certain situations, the author's interpretations may bring out an aspect of the card I don't see on my own. Overall, this is a very easy deck to read, but I wouldn't recommend it to someone looking for a very traditional deck. While staying close to Rider-Waite-like themes on many cards, the deck also goes in its own direction on others. That is one of the things I appreciate about it, but may not appeal to others. I do hope the author is still working on the expanded workbook on the deck she was planning on issuing--I'll be first in line to buy it!

Purchased two, one for my daughter and one for my wife. They both said the following comments: nicely illustrated, makes for a good reading. The accompanying book is well written, and it was definitely worth the price.

This unique set was in good condition like promised and shipped promptly as well. I like how the artwork is appropriate to contemporary settings. Each card has a distinct feel that is helping me to remember the meanings. Having no pagan training I am not sure of all the subtleties, but it gives me something extra to look for. No complaints here. Thank you!

A deck for modern times,

This review is from: Pagan Tarot Kit (English and Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
This is a tarot pack that seems clearly designed for a study of modern life. The entire point is that this is a Wiccan who is trying to balance her faith with modern life. I enjoy using this deck, though there are some cards that seem a bit, well, unusual for their meaning. However, this deck has some brilliant moments, such as the Salem witch trials as a backdrop for the Judgment card. Those looking for a pagan good time aren't likely to be happy here. This deck seems to be about the spiritual reflections of a Wiccan lady. Most of the questionable cards actually make sense if you really think about them. The drawing on the Lovers, for one, reminds us that the true meaning of the card is about choices, not romance. The Empress is actually the Goddess card, and stands to represent Her. So it really isn't improper to have a mother, a little girl who will be a maiden, and a crone, as aspects of the Goddess in her whole self.
A couple of the cards, however, such as the Tower and the Devil, are harder to understand. My only real problem with this deck is that I have trouble interpreting the court royals and tend to mix them up. Much of the reason of this is that I just cannot find my booklet anywhere.

I was looking for a deck that spoke to me. This one spoke in just the wrong way. The imagery is modern, but the deck does not fit me personally. As well as the imagery on the Tower card, it was not exactly appropriate for the lesson.
