This collection of transcriptions of the violin Caprices is, not to put too fine a point on it, dreadful (a violinist friend of mine used an even stronger word). Nor would anyone else likely have done much better — the music is just unsuited to the guitar.
However, you certainly get value in terms of the total time: it is 79'24".

Was I ever wrong!
Fisk not only pulls off the amazing technical requirements of the Caprices, he does so with feeling, warmth, and spirit, which is difficult enough but almost impossible with Paganini on the guitar.
If you are a guitar player, purchase the sheet music (only available for violin as far as I know) and read along with Fisk. Then attempt one of the pieces yourself. Your appreciation of the talent involved will increase immeasurably.
In the future, whenever someone proclaims about a certain guitar player's technical wizardry, place this CD in your system and listen to Fisk performing the 5th Caprice...and then ask yourself if the virtuoso in question could match Fisk's performance. Sure, sure.
This is truly a CD that I love to put on and just sit back and enjoy. I highly recommend this CD to any guitar player or any fan of classical music.
Fisk's playing is stellar, and the recording is crisp and clear. He plays all 24 caprices wonderfully, I am especially impressed with #5...I think I played it three times in a row.
Why is this no longer in print? Luckily I found it used for only $6, what a steal! Hopefully you can find it in the library and burn a copy...hey, if no label is going to publish this masterpiece...

The cd satisfied me very well，because the tone is so fabulous to show me that from a real guitarist. The cd is nearly brand-new except for the wrap.Published on February 14, 2013 by eflatmajor

It's cool to have a recording of all 24 of these together but yes I will have to agree with a lot of the negative reviews of this in that it's very sloppy. Read morePublished on June 18, 2006 by Shaolinguitarmonk
