Book Description

Fall in love with the powerful Viking warriors and ruggedly handsome Crusader knights of Miriam Minger's CAPTIVE BRIDES COLLECTION: Twin Passions, Captive Rose, and The Pagan's Prize!

THE PAGAN'S PRIZE - The bold Viking warrior Rurik traveled alone on a mission of conquest. But along the way a golden-haired captive inflamed him with longing. He took up his sword to defend her…then swore to claim her for his own.

A beautiful Russian princess betrayed by treachery, Zora spurned the powerful man who held her prisoner—and vowed never to yield. He had been sent as a spy to pave the way for her people’s surrender. But his furious hunger for her heated touch—and her aching need for his burning caress—led to a fiery passion that was a greater prize than any kingdom.

***Best Medieval Historical Romance of the Year Award from Romantic Times***

"Another fine example of Ms. Minger's amazing talent. I thoroughly enjoyed it!" - New York Times bestselling author Johanna Lindsey

"Brilliantly imaginative! The Pagan's Prize will totally engross the reader." - I'll Take Romance

"Five stars...It is filled with rich detail that takes the reader on a rare trip to Russia in the eleventh century and is told so skillfully that the reader feels as if they have been there. The Pagan's Prize should be at the top of your shopping list!" - Affaire de Coeur

"Outstanding! This is a well-written, moving story that shows the tremendous skill of the author. Marvelous barely describes my feelings." - Rendezvous

5.0 out of 5 stars A joy to read! November 10, 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
In my belief Miriam Minger is one of the most promising authors of Historical Romances nowadays. This is the second book I have read of hers and I truly loved it. The story centres around Zora - a beautiful Russian princess and Rurik a Viking warrior. Because of her sister's treachery Zora falls captive to a slave merchant and only Rurik's timly intervention saves her from sure ravishment. This book is very engrossing. I enjoyed every minute reading it and I definitely recommend it to anyone even though it is not one of Minger's latest books. The story is not one of those boring -love at first sight- ones. The two heroes will have to face quite a few adventures before they realize their true love towards each other. Very sensual.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remembered as one of my favorites March 29, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
When I was a heavy romance reader in my teens, I read the paperback copy and absolutely loved it. The heroine Zora is the bastard daughter of a Russian prince, whose jealous sister sells her into captivity. She is claimed by Rurik, a Viking serving her father's brother, a rival Russian prince. The relationship is volatile and very passionate. The author does love scenes very well, in particular, a memorable scene in a bathhouse. Rurik risks the possibility of Zora dying before he can admit his true feelings, which made for a sweet ending. I suppose what frustrated me was how the characters would often misinterpret each other's actions; perhaps authors do it to create tension but it seems contrived when one simple conversation would clear up the misunderstanding. Still, even that factor didn't detract from the story telling. I'm happy to see this book on Kindle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good. December 23, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
i admit, i was not really expecting much from this one, but from the start it was surprisingly well written, the characters were well formed, staying consistent to the person they were written as.

The short term amnesia and the rapid change of heart from planning wholeheartedly to escape and then suddenly being in love was... a bit much, but at least she was written as a fiery, quicksilver girl, so you can at last kind of... see it. i did not find Our Hero's actions nearly as noble as it seemed the author was trying to say they were (i'm sorry, if she doesn't have her wits about her, it's *not* consensual) nor do i find the know-it-all male version of the romantic hero to be particularly attractive.

But hey. Well written, even if didn't want to be BFFs with the characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Praise for Pagan's Prize! July 27, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The More I read of Minger the More I like. I really enjoyed this book. This is my first "Viking" book and I loved it. I loved the storyline, this book really has it all. The heroine Zora is betrayed by her half sister and narrowly escapes rape, being rescued by Rurik (the Hero). These two have a REAl love hate relationship! Rurik being loyal to her Uncle the current Ruler of Rus:)(Russia) and Zora being loyal to her father who is challenging her uncle for control of Rus. There is Much this couple has to overcome. Zora is so brave and headstrong, but not so much that she doesn't see whats right in front of her. Rurik is wounded, but a totally acceptable Hero. I thought that Rurik having "women" would make me dislike him, but in reality, it was accurate of the times. Of course he would have concubines! There is lots of action in this book as well, battle scenes and such, very realistic, loved that too. I rated this book 5 stars because I think it has everything a reader would want in a book. Again, I'm left wanting more to the story, I guess I will just have to keep on reading her books! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Just wonderful! July 5, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Wow! The Pagan's Prize is a quick-moving and exciting story. It's so easy to be caught up and start feeling like you live in 11th century Russia, or Rus, with these fantastic(and/or treacherous) characters. I loved how Miriam Minger included bits of information regarding how life was like in those times, along with how people referred to themselves and each other. I really felt educated after finishing and was never bored or bogged down with the details. The heroine was a fine example of a strong, yet vulnerable woman who speaks her mind and defends her beliefs, sometimes even to a fault. She is a proud woman who holds herself in high regard even being of "lowly birth". There is such delicious tension between the main characters, yum! You just know it's about to get really good!!! All in all, it was another example of why Miriam Minger is such a superb story teller.

Read this book in one sitting.

Wonderful story.

Great couple.

Would have given this a 5 star rating except for the sudden ending, just felt a little cheated at the end.

Worth every penny though!

More About the Author

Miriam Minger's first novel Twin Passions was called "A fabulous debut!" by Romantic Times. Since then, Miriam has swept readers into her unforgettable historical romances with her strong, forceful heroes and fiery heroines. She is the winner of several Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Awards--including Best Medieval Historical Romance of the Year for The Pagan's Prize--and a two-time RITA Award Finalist for A Hint of Rapture and Captive Rose.

Miriam Minger's contemporary novel Ripped Apart, "An absolute gem of a romantic suspense. Five Stars!" has won rave reviews from romance and thriller readers alike. Miriam is also happy to announce that her Little Mike and Maddie series of children's picture books about a lovable pair of dogs and their motorcycle adventures is available under her pen name, Miriam Aronson.

Bestselling author Miriam Minger says: It's been a wonderful experience to have all my novels published as eBooks, but the greatest thrill for me as a writer is when readers take the time to let me know they enjoyed one of my stories...

"I have read hundreds if not thousands of books in my lifetime and not once have I ever been moved to comment on one until now. This is without a doubt one of the best books I have ever read. I laughed. I cried. I remained at the edge of my seat devouring every single word you wove with this incredible story. I just wanted to let you know how deeply this story moved me and to thank you for creating it."

Wow. This one left me speechless...and grateful. I had done my job, which is to make you feel like you've dropped feet first into a world that captures your imagination and emotions so vividly you might be living and breathing the story. And that's one of the purest joys of reading, isn't it? I know it is for me...and it is my hope to continue to write books that make you feel the passion, live and breathe the adventure, laugh and cry and touch your heart.
