Because it avoids complex operations in Javascript and DHTML and has an interface similar to common word processing applications, Adobe PageMill is a Web development application that appeals to users with little or no experience in Web design. However, elementary directions are labeled "Tips" and set apart from the main text, which allows more advanced readers to skip past them.
Readers get a basic overview of the Internet and HTML in general and then learn about PageMill 3's interface. The book then shows how to create pages, edit and format text, insert images and plug-in objects, create and edit tables, add links, use frames and forms, troubleshoot their HTML, and manage an entire site.
As opposed to the author's previous edition on PageMill 2, this book features cross-platform instructions. One caveat: since PageMill 3 varies so much between Macintosh and Windows, the doubling up of commands and menus could be confusing despite the book's clear and thorough captions. Slow and careful reading at these stages is advised.
As with other Visual Quickstart Guides, PageMill 3 for Macintosh and Windows: Visual Quickstart Guide is meant to serve as a reference, not just a tutorial. One can access needed information through the index or the table of contents or by flipping through the labeled thumb tabs. Appendices show all toolbars, menus, commands, and keyboard shortcuts, thus making PageMill 3 a complete and practical manual. --Angelynn Grant

Great for PageMill 3 beginners,
By A Customer
This review is from: Pagemill 3 for Macintosh and Windows (Visual QuickStart Guide) (Paperback)
This book was perfect in helping me design an in-house training curriculum for novice PageMill users. When I received the task of training others on PageMill I had never even seen the program. This book was great in teaching me the basics so that I could begin to teach others. I wouldn't say that it's an advanced users guide, but for a simple, graphical, easy-to-understand start-up, it's perfect.

This review is from: Pagemill 3 for Macintosh and Windows (Visual QuickStart Guide) (Paperback)
As a teacher, curriculum developer and online graduate student who uses PageMill almost every day, I found the book to be an excellent introduction to the software and its capabilities The book is appropriately targeted at beginning and intermediate users and is much superior to the any of the material which accompanies the software. I got quite a bit from the book and am certain others will also. I would love to see Langer take the next step by writing a book for intermediate and advanced users who would like to do more formal web page design using this great software product.

This review is from: Pagemill 3 for Macintosh and Windows (Visual QuickStart Guide) (Paperback)
Clear introduction of web terms. I liked the format; the features and capabilities of PageMill are clearly explained and illustrated. I have a copy of PageMill for my Mac at work and one for my PC at home, and I was very grateful for the equal coverage of both environments. This book has dramatically improved my opinion of PageMill.
