The first time I listened to this CD, I was intrigued. The second time I began to like it. The third time I fell in love with it.

The music is ethereal and moving, without a synth or an amplified instrument in the soundscape.

One of the many beauties of this fine piece of work is to detect, just occasionally, the odd hint of charming Irish brogue in the perfect diction of this impressive artist.

Rather tricky to describe the style or to suggest parallels with other artists, but it reminds me a tiny little bit of Kimya Dawson, but a transatlantic version with an orchestral backing.

Impossibly beautiful indeed.

This is a magnificaent example of contemporary music coming out of Ireland at the moment. If Michael Kamen or even John Barry had got to Kate Bush before David Gilmour, then The Kick Inside might have sounded like this- delicate, soothing, inspiring smiles and furrowed brows alike.

pages (deliberately lower case!) is the follow-up to Julie Feeney's award winning "13 Songs" album. You can obviously hear the progression with charming and original melodies and clever lyrics, but the music has become much more layered with JF scoring it for an orchestra, whereas on the first album she played most of the instruments herself and had them sparsely arranged in relation with the vocals.

This time she is conducting 65 musicians herself and it's a joy to pick up the subtle counterpoints and harmonies if you listen through headphones or through worthy speakers in a quiet room.

A lot of the wierdness of the debut album has been mellowed out(perhaps by acclimatisation on my part due to regular playing) and the songs are more immediately accessible, but with enough to contemplate in the lyrics to encourage repeat listenings: humour, insight, reflection - all the familiar themes from 13 Songs are here, but not in such an autobiographical way, so there is plenty for any listener to relate to personally.

Stand out tracks are "Love is a Tricky Thing" (which has a cool video too, but that isn't on this disc), "Impossibly Beautiful" (which is playground-chant catchy) and "Mr Roving Eye Guy" (which just makes you nod sagely as you recognise the characters within).

Likely to be enjoyed by fans of Kate Bush, Bjork, Imogen Heap, Real World, Stravinsky and Samuel Barber.
