Book Description

December 26, 2007
Four strong women from different walks of life in Australia, London and San Francisco, they've all come to the breathtakingly beautiful isle of Corfu seeking the same thing—refuge. Between marriage woes, dead-end careers, and demanding families, these women need a vacation—a little sun, a few shots of Sambuca, and a couple of sexy Greek men will surely allow them to relax, right? Maybe not.

Australian Claire Dillon is 46, still has amazing legs, and is ready for a change. Her husband is having an affair with a 29-year old masseuse, and her gay son is looking for a father figure in a series of unsuitable boyfriends. When she takes off for Corfu in the middle of disaster, everyone says she's gone mad—and she's out to prove them right.

Parker Glass' marriage lasted eleven days, not exactly what the perfectionist interior designer from San Francisco had dreamed of. After a breakdown at work, her partner firmly suggests she use her scheduled honeymoon time for some much needed sun and relaxation in the Greek Isles. At first, the vacation seems just the thing for getting her life back on track... but sometimes the cure is worse than the disease.

Anya Soberanes is convinced she's cursed—how else could she still be looking for her soulmate? When her aunt finds her unconscious in her San Francisco apartment after inadvertently overdosing on sleeping pills and telenovelas, her parents give her an ultimatum: either take a vacation with her friend's sister Parker, or check into a mental-health facility. As Anya discovers, facing her fears is easy in Greece—it's making her dreams come true that's the hard part.

25-year old Londoner Kelah Morris wants more than anything to publish a brilliant novel and prove to her editor mother that she's destined for more than selling popcorn at the cinema. All Kelah needs is an escape from her overbearing parents, dead-end job, jailbird brother and just-published friends to free herself of her infamous writer's block. Butshe doesn't factor in the possibility of wild career success and true love on her island getaway.

Together, these four women discover that sometimes you need to get away from it all to discover what you really need.

More About the Author

Hi, folks. I'm Kim Green. I write women's fiction with comical and romantic elements. I also write a lot of marketing copy lacking in comedy or romance, for such clients as Kashi. (If you need to know anything about whole grains and fiber, I'm your gal.) I could tell you silly stuff about myself, like I have an M.A. in International Relations from the University of Amsterdam that qualifies me to create exotic settings for my books and little else, but I think my blog is probably a better place to get to know me and my oeuvre (what is that, anyway?).

Four Women on a Greek Island October 29, 2004
Format:Paperback
Four women - a Greek island filled with hunks - what can possibly go wrong? Plenty, if you consider what got them all to the island in the first place! 25-year old Kelah from London is dying to become a published writer. Maybe a beautiful island can help? Anya from San Francisco is convinced she is cursed in love - and after almost dying from an overdose, she has a choice: check into rehab, or go on vacation with her friend's sister Parker. Parker meanwhile has problems of her own - her husband of only 11 days has deserted her. So she decides, after some not-so-gentle prodding from her partner at the law firm, to go on vacation to a Greek island on what was supposed to be her honeymoon. 46-year old Claire Dillon from Australia also has man problems: her husband is cheating on her with a masseuse, her gay son hasn't spoken to his father in over 7 years, and Claire decides she needs to get away before she loses her mind.

Things don't quite go the way they are supposed to for these four women. Anya falls for a man who pined away for his ex-girlfriend, who has suddenly shown up on the island; Parker is very attracted to a man who refuses to let her be anything but a good friend; Claire finds that she still has a singing voice, and that she can have an affair with a very enigmatic singer named Andreas, who may not be as available as he seems; and Kelah discovers her best friend Boz may have more feelings for her than she ever imagined.

Join the four women in their struggle to find themselves, find peace, and perhaps find a few hunks on the tiny island of Corfu in Paging Aphrodite. Kim Green has thrown together the perfect recipe of sun, fun, love, angst, friendship and uncertainty in this book. I enjoyed it thoroughly, as the four main characters have a way of making you root for them.

There were many plot twists and turns in this book that really surprised me. If you are looking for a very unpredictable novel that will keep you reading until the very end - make sure to pick up a copy of Paging Aphrodite. You won't be disappointed. The characterization is excellent, the plot races along breathlessly, and the story is refreshingly distinctive. Highly recommended.

I'm quickly realizing what a great author Kim Green is and have now decided to become a Kim Green groupie. I read Paging Aphrodite first and absolutely loved it. The characters are very distinct, the writing is excellent and witty, and the story is set up in a way to keep you reading. Now I'm reading Is that a Moose in your Pocket? and I'm having a hard time putting it down to write my own chick lit novel. Extremely good!

Started out good but... January 3, 2008
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book is definitely readable -- short chapters, clearly identified povs. But I really felt it hard to feel connected to the four women -- really connected, that is. The timeline moves quite quickly and pov shifts often. I felt as though I was watching a play, and getting to know the characters on a surface level only. Still, the author has a nice writing style.
