Aaron rubbed his hands together, trying to force some warmth to his tingling fingertips. The weather had grown colder by the minute once the sun had disappeared beneath the horizon and Aaron was now left to find food and shelter for the night in the dark.
"Looks like we might go hungry again, Lamb," Aaron said to a baby sheep standing at his knee. No one else had ever seen the lamb in question but Aaron still considered the sheep his greatest friend. "You'd better hope we find some scraps soon Lamb or else I’m going to have to eat you." Lamb did not laugh at Aaron's little joke, not even when Aaron explained he had only said it in jest. "You should lighten up, Lamb, it's not as though I ever make you climb into the garbage to find us food. All you ever do is follow me around and Baa Baa Baa. All the while you reap the rewards of my scavenging.”
As the boy and his sheep made their way up an alleyway, checking every pile of detritus for anything of value, Lamb began to Baa loudly at the scene ahead. "You're right Lamb, that is a lot of people, I wonder what's going on? What do you mean why am I asking you? I'm only trying to make polite conversation Lamb, there's no need to be snide." Aaron crossed his arms and furrowed his brow, his cheeks flushing with color as he raemained silent for a moment. "Fine, be that way! Who needs you anyway, Lamb?" At that Lamb stormed off, leaving Aaron alone in the narrow alley. Aaron instantly regretted his harsh tone, his grimace fading to a frown and his eyes welled with salty tears. He clenched his eyelids tightly and shook his head, swallowing the sadness whole. "I don't need him. He needs me. If he wants to share my scraps, he'd better apologize.” Aaron opened his eyes and breathed easier, reassured by his own words.
