Painful Secrets aka Secret Cutting,

I saw this movie, "Painful Secrets", a long time ago on Lifetime Network. I have literally been waiting since I saw the movie years ago to buy it. I was dissapointed when I found out I couldn't buy it! I am so excited that this movie is out on DVD... finally! I preordered it and bought it asap :) I have struggled with cutting and feeling like I belong, so it is nice to watch a movie about it, knowing that other girls go through it as well.
This movie is about a teenage girl named Dawn, who struggles with fitting in and feeling loved from her parents. You start off watching the movie where she already cuts herself. She gets teased by the popular girls throughout this whole movie. She is seeing a guy that she thinks really likes her at first but then turns out he just wants sex. She meets a girl named Lorranie that has a drug addiction and Lorranie introduces Dawn to her counlsor. Dawn eventually ends up seeking help, but that doesn't stop her vicious cutting cycle. You see her struggle throughout this whole movie with her mother, who is self centered. Her father doesn't show her any love at all, and her brother just thinks she is a "freak". This is a great movie, and I would recommend it to anyone :)

I watched this movie when it first aired on USA network as Secret cutting. It was really an eye opener . The movie later aired as Painful secrets. It is a well made show and a valuable resource for teens and adults who go through the secret world of self harm, hiding in shame and not really knowing why. That the blame was not put completely on the parents but also on other factors in the girl's life. I was impressed by her desire to find alternatives to cutting. I wish more movies were made about this problem and how adults cope with self harm behaviors.

This is all around bad. It has the kind of dialogue that makes you scratch your head and wonder if the writers live in this universe. People just don't talk to each other or react to each other in such archetypal ways. It's an insult to the viewer's intelligence. The acting is poor throughout, as are the editing, the camerawork... avoid. This must have been a Lifetime movie of the week or something. It lacks all subtlety.
