This review is from: The Painful Side of Leadership: Moving Forward Even When It Hurts (Paperback)
As a Christian businessman, I found Dr. Jeff Iorg's book, The Painful Side of Leadership, extremely relevant to my own life. Although written from a pastoral perspective, the book is helpful to all Christians who serve as leaders in any capacity, whether in ministry or in the business world. As I look back over the past twenty years, I wish I had Dr. Iorg's book in my tool chest to help me work through some of my painful decisions. The book is easy to read and is filled with insights, wisdom and practical advice. Dr. Iorg does not waste time offering easy fixes or shallow platitudes, but he offers valuable principles based upon God's Word. This book is for all wounded leaders and those leaders that don't want to be victims. If you are in any type of leadership position and your choices or circumstances have left you lonely or hurting, I encourage you to get this book so you can lead on with God's grace and gift of hope!

Dr. Iorg hits the nail on the head in every single chapter. He left no rock or difficult topic unturned as he interwove practical advice and personal stories of success and failure. He practiced what he preached in writing the book . . . be honest, transparent, and realistic about yourself and others.
I have referred people to this book several times over the past few weeks and I have decided to purchase several paperback copies to hand out to peers. It has become a book I keep on my "in case of emergency" shelf. I am sure I will continue to reference the book and its wisdom for years to come.

I have been waiting for someone to write a book like this. It has already helped me in dealing with a current crisis. I don't have to be as involved as I usually become. Normally, because I want everyone to "get along," I try and solve problems between church members as they arise. The last problem came to my office like a little girl telling on a bully. Her husband wanted me to talk with the offender and tell him to apologize. I now know that that is their problem. They can work it out. I don't have to get involved. At least as long as it doesn't affect the entire church, I can sit and wait until an appropriate time to talk with them. God is using this book to help me. Thank you for allowing Him to use you to write it!

When you read a book written by Jeff Iorg you can be sure you'll find keen spiritual insight, a bit of humor and practical suggestions for dealing with life situations. This is definitely true of The Painful Side of Leadership. I'm sure this book is invaluable to vocational leaders but I'm just an ordinary person who is sometimes called on to lead and I can recommend it to folks like me as well as the vocational types. You'll find yourself wanting to sit down and ask for more details about some of these experiences!!

This review is from: The Painful Side of Leadership: Moving Forward Even When It Hurts (Paperback)
Often in the last few weeks, I find myself referring to Dr. Iorg's insights from this book. His maturity and experience come through in the writing, and I feel that I am a better leader because of reading it. In conversation, I have recommended this book to others frequently. After reading it, I do not feel quite so alone in the difficult decisions of being a leader. This book is worth reading.

This review is from: The Painful Side of Leadership: Moving Forward Even When It Hurts (Paperback)
Dr. Jeff Iorg's book, The Painful Side of Leadership, is a must read for anyone who is in ministry and should be required reading for every Seminary student. It is insightful, humorous, and captures perfectly the essence of life in ministry from pain and tears to laughter and joy. Jeff illustrates what many are going through or will go through as targets of criticism by the individuals they serve.

No Joke. The Best Leadership Book I've Ever Read,

This review is from: The Painful Side of Leadership: Moving Forward Even When It Hurts (Paperback)
I've been a senior pastor for over 25 years and earned a D.Min. in Leadership. I've read a lot of leadership books, but Dr. Iorg's The Painful Side of Leadership is the VERY best leadership book I have ever read. Ministry leadership is too often painful. That pain tends to immobilize. Iorg's book gives great biblical insights and practical strategies to move forward again. His deeply honest illustrations from his own life and ministry help us easily identify with his message. I'm recommending it to every Christian leader I know.

The job of the shepherd has not gone away; its title has just changed over the years. "The Painful Side of Leadership: Moving Forward Even When it Hurts" is a Christian leadership guide to leading Christians by channeling the ways of the biblical shepherd. Stating that sometimes leadership is not the easiest thing in the world, he hopes to inspire readers be something more and become leaders themselves. "The Painful Side of Leadership" is worth consideration for any person who could call themselves a leader of Christians.
