2.0 out of 5 stars not painless
Other than drawing a couple of cartoon characters, there was nothing that made this painless. i was looking for a book that would help older kids get over their aversion to fractions. this was not it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Math Book I ever read! and bought!, March 14, 2001

This review is from: Painless Fractions (Barron's Painless Series) (Paperback)
I am a College Gradaute, and I must say I never Learned Math as good as I should have back when I attended public school I always had inept teachers that did not know how to teach math, this has made my math skills weak. Recently I purchased Painless Fractions, by Alyece Cummings, Laurie Hamilton(Illustrator), I learned more from reading this book than I have from attending public school from grades 3-12. The author of this book talks in plain english about fractions and math, very easy for anyone to understand, also a very helpful study aid. I have used this book to study for exams for school and work and found it to be very helpful, In addition I must say that the Cartoons are very cute and are a great touch to the book. I feel that this is a Math book for anyone that wants to learn Math or needs some extra help with Math. I think it is fantastic. Very Well written. I would have to say that it is the best Math book I ever bought, it was a great investment for me.

I would recommend this book to children struggling with fractions, or even to adults who struggled with fractions when they were learning them as kids. The author makes it about as simple as it can be made. The only thing better would be to hire a private tutor. If you go through this book one step at a time, and practice at each level, you should learn a lot. I bought this book because I started a math club at my son's school. I plan to let the children borrow it as needed.

What an absolute charm! I used this book in my "at home studies" with my two pre-high school daughters. The book is so simply written and easily understandable. My daughters are grasping the concept of fractions as never before. This book is indispensable! BRAVO!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as "Painless Algebra" but, April 3, 2008

still tons better than your average, run-of-the-mill, text book book! I was so looking forward to this book after buying Painless Algebra (which I gave five stars...that's a TERRIFIC book!)thinking it would be just as good. With "...Algebra" I was able to read and understand what they were talking about once or twice and do the exercises/brain ticklers fairly easily. With this book, I find myself having to go back, several times, to grasp what they are saying in order to complete them. Again..much, much better than the ordinary text book and I would recommend this to anyone who struggles with fractions ~ whether it's for a child just learning this or an adult who wants to conquer it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Fractions!!!, December 16, 2008
Absolutely the best math guide I have ever purchased. I have always been awful at math. I had countless tutors growing up and stayed in pre-algebra most of high school and remedial math in college. I wanted to re-learn fractions and algebra since I would be returning to school and would have to test for placement in mathematics. I took me 4 days to finish the book (about 2 1/2 hrs. a day) and for the very first time in my life I actually understand fractions! I went on to buy Painless Algebra (Barron's Painless) and it was another amazing book.

The author explains things in a very simple easy to understand format. She starts slowly, building your confidence and before you know it you are working on problems that a couple of days prior to reading the book would've made your head spin. I only wish someone had given me this book when I was learning this in school. It would have made a world of a difference. Highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, May 16, 2009
I am going back to school at 42 after a 21 year career that required very little brain stimulation. This book explains fractions in a real simple way. They only assume that you can add subtract and multiply. I can do fractions now. Written in simple language. Gives you test at the end of te chapters so you know that you understand it. I bought this because of some reviews that I read here. Thank you to all the folks that take the time to write honest reviews.

I received this book, Painless Fractions [ Painless Series ] in a timely manner and in excellent condition. The examples are quite useful in helping one better understand how to solve fractions. I bought this book for my daughter, a 7th grade math teacher. She has used several concepts from this book in her presentations.
