Painting Inspirations Vol 11,
By Joady (Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Paint Along with Jerry Yarnell Volume Two - Painting Inspirations (Paperback)
This book is by far the best art book I've owned as far as the very detailed step by step instructions it gives for each painting right down to the colours to mix and the brushes to use. Highly recommended.

This is one of my favorite instruction books. I love sunsets. Can't quite figure why anyone would trash it like one of the other reviews on this book. Personally I think I need Gods help to achieve a likeness of anything I paint. I'm not a "natural" and I can't remember key mixes for colors so I rely on books like Jerry's to give me bought talent. I don't expect a book to make me a artist by any means. I'm fascinated by anything I do that has a semblance to Jerry's work. I think I'm ahead of the game.

This was one of my first real art books I purchased after all my Walter Foster instructional books, which I love and will always treasure..(I still have quite a few of them). I did two paintings from Jerry Yarnell's book..only I painted them on plates...not on canvas. I started off painting on glass...then went to bowls and plates..now I paint on canvas. I did a Swan scene by the water from Jerry's book..called "PAINTING LIGHT". on porcelain with acrylic and baked the paint on, and then I did a Country scene at sunset on a plate. I also baked that acrylic paint on, and varnished both projects. I followed his instructional book, and I was really pleased with the finished project. They are sitting in my china cabinet..(actually, I did them a couple of years ago). I thought at first, the paintings might be too difficult..but they turned out great. I like this artist...although I understand not everyone might find his instruction wonderful. I find them to be detailed, and very well written myself. I am what I consider a beginner painter on canvas, and I really enjoy his books...a good step by step instruction in my opinion. These books are worth the money, as there are usually about 6 or 8 projects in each one. I was really surprised at what I'd accomplished with Jerry's art instruction. (If you want this particular book called Painting Light...it has the two swans at sunset by the lake, on the cover) (painting along with Jerry Yarnell.

This is a great follow up to Jerry Yarnell's Volume One book on painting. It is easy to follow, because the instructions are very detailed and the pictures very precise. I really enjoy painting with this book.

God!,

How disappointing. According to Jerry, painting is a "god given" gift. He would not be able to paint without god's help. If god is all-powerful then if I were gifted from god to paint I wouldn't need this book. If I'm not gifted by god to paint then why bother? And again I wouldn't need this book.
I think I'll buy a book by a mere mortal so I can learn how to paint. : ) |
