4.0 out of 5 stars Good Do It Yourself Guide, August 14, 2007

This review is from: How to Paint Classic Cars (Enthusiast's Restoration Manual) (Paperback)
This book is a good guide to counter some of the others out there that are entirely too oriented toward those with access to professional facilities. Few of the shade tree restorers among us have ready access to the full gamut of spray booths, high end abrasive blasting, two-stage compressors, etc.--you get the idea. This book is more focused on doing things economically. Following the guidelines in this book, you might not get the results that you would in a pro shop, but you will also avoid the easily recommended 'get all the best toys' mentality. One item of note: because this book is out of Great Britain, the product recommendations are not directly relatable to U.S. products / product lines, but comparable products are recognizable.

As with all books by Martin Thaddeus, this one just starts on the subject without a whole lot of filler. I wish this guy wrote more books covering other automotive topics. A great buy for the true diy who doesn't have all the money in the world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good information, basic and reasonable, August 20, 2009
This review is from: How to Paint Classic Cars (Enthusiast's Restoration Manual) (Paperback)
This book on painting classic cars is written and based on English vehicles. Along with the different nomenclature that is used such as "bonnet" for hood and "boot" for trunk, the book provides honest, real repair and paint procedures. Most books of this nature tend to throw chapters about different paint types, chemicals and high dollar spray equipment at you, but this one tends to focus more on just getting the job accomplished. It touches on those subjects of course, but it does not waste a lot of space on the issues either.

I found that the book provided some very interesting examples and tips on how to go about making reasonable repairs and laying down the paint in a method that would serve the purpose. If you are looking for something that is just not a gloss over on the idea of painting, but rather a practical application then this book is for you.

This book has good information to learn. I shows you how to do all the painting. I was not able to try anything, because I am unemployed, and do not have any cash to do anything with.

This book goes right with Martin Thaddeus other book on body repair.
His body repair book is very very good. It will teach you to take a really really rusted out car, and make it new again. He teaches you how to repair parts of the car, without buying the part. Which is a much cheaper way of repairing it.
