Book Description

1590592387 978-1590592380 September 15, 2003

Paint Shop Pro 8 is a feature-packed graphics tool that enables you to edit and enhance your photos, as well as use its powerful drawing and text tools to create artwork from scratch. The scope of this program is immense: you can use it for all your graphic design projects at home, business, or just for fun. Photography, text, vector graphics, webpage interfaces... the combinations and possibilities are endless. For the inexperienced, knowing what you can achieve is just as difficult as learning how to do it.

Paint Shop Pro 8 Zero to Hero answers all these questions and enables you to create professional-looking graphics for your home and business projects. In fact, you'll learn to do everything the program can do—fast. From Paint Shop Pro beginner to master, this book is designed to get you up to speed in the blink of an eye.

Zero to Hero is more than a catchy slogan and an opportunity for puns and graphical representations of tights, capes, and phone booths. It's a style of learning designed by friends of ED to reach beyond dry technical explanations and dusty old authors who don't know how it is for real users and wouldn't know good design if it slapped them in the face with a wet fish.

With a Zero to Hero book, you can choose how you learn. Learn everything you need to know about Paint Shop Pro 8 by working through the first section of the book from start to finish—or, alternatively, you can dive straight in to the inspirational Hero chapters and refer back as and when you need. Then later, when you're a hero yourself, the book is easily used as a reference tool.

When you're done, you'll be ready to wear your underwear on the outside—metaphorically speaking, of course.

About the Author

Sally Beacham is an instructor at lvsonline.com, specializing in Paint Shop Pro as well as Photoshop-compatible plugin filters, Xara X and FrontPage. She's been a private tester for Jasc Software, Corel, Alien Skin, Auto FX, The Plugin Site, and many other software companies. She also teaches Paint Shop Pro, graphics, and web design at community education programs in southern Maine. Sally writes a column for psppower.com or, more accurately, takes dictation for the FilterMunky, who tests and reviews plugin filters specifically for use in Paint Shop Pro. You can visit Sally's website, which features Paint Shop Pro resources and tutorials as well as resources for Photoshop-compatible plugin filters, at www.dizteq.com.

Ron Lacey is an active member of the Paint Shop Pro community, where he is known as the vector guy. As well as his own websites, Ron has written tutorials for the Jasc website and contributes a regular column to the PSP Power Newsletter psppower.com. Being an avid amateur photographer and darkroom enthusiast for over 25 years sparked his interest in computer graphics in general and Paint Shop Pro in particular. As a private beta tester for Paint Shop Pro 6, 7, and 8, Ron has been able to stay on top of the Paint Shop Pro learning curve. He teaches Adobe Illustrator, Digital Photography, Digital Darkroom and, alongside Sally, several other Paint Shop Pro classes at LVS Online (lvsonline.com).

5.0 out of 5 stars Delighted, impatient and already halfway thru the book., October 23, 2003

I have taken classes and purchased books since my first PaintShopPro7 graphics and I believe I have the entire library of KISS, IDIOT or DUMMY books on PSP8. This book, informative & including terrific tutorials, is written in a style that draws the reader in, makes him a willing participant and never makes him feel incompetent.

I strongly recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn and understand their computer and photo graphics.

5.0 out of 5 stars PSP8 from the Foundation on up, November 19, 2003

What a fabulous foundation Sally and Ron have put together regarding PSP8.. worth the $'s spent. It is my opinion that this book is a must read for anyone that is interested in PSP8 and it's potential. What I enjoyed about this book, you get a good feel of each of the newest features and a little tutorial on how to accomplish a task.

Each section offers a new quest and learning curve... I may know a lot about PSP8... but this book fills in those questionable areas... This book seemed to add that extra punch I needed to get on that next level of expertise. Well written... No CD's.. You have to buy the book and read if you want the extra's that compliment each chapter.

For the newbie and the seasoned user......I had only reached the second chapter in this great little book when I realized that this was going to be what I had been looking for. A way to make the learning process of our beloved PSP easier, and really come to life.

Paint Shop Pro is a real addiction for the graphic or photographic oriented person. We live and breathe the program, literally. We have thousands of folks in forums and chat rooms around the world absorbed by this phenomenon. It is to this end that we all are going to appreciate what Sally and Ron have given us here.

Going into great detail, and with colored graphics on every page to illuminate their lessons, these very clever people have crafted something here that we all will treasure. Moving from simple graphics, and the painting tools to the Digital Darkroom, and the mysterious Histogram tool. Its all here........over 270 pages to keep you absorbed for many nights.
