Disappointing for a Beginner!,

If you're an experienced Paint Shop Pro user, this might be a good reference book. But as a novice, I found the book to be confusing, just a collection of Paint Shop Pro facts and procedures. It would have been nice to have some examples, where an image is edited from start to finish, step by step. Also, I couldn't help but notice that the authors did not give an address or email address where they could be contacted with questions, comments, errors in the book, etc. I have put this book back on the shelf and I'm using the manual that came with Paint Shop Pro.

Paint Shop Pro has proven to be a valuable asset for the serious Website designer who must quickly create and edit graphic images. This program has evolved into a top-notch product that competes on many levels with the best programs in the industry. Users of all levels of experience will find it easy and affordable to use. Ben Sawyer and Joann Meyer have written Paint Shop Pro 5 for Windows to offer a concise overview of the operation of the entire program. The book offers readers detailed instruction on a number of topics such as setting the program's preferences, creating images, acquiring new images (scanning, digital cameras, clipart collections, and Web services), using the many editing tools included with the program, creating Web images, controlling colors for faster Web delivery, and creating animated Web graphics with Animation Shop that ships with Paint Shop Pro. Of special interest to others, who like myself enjoy experimenting with creative image editing, the book devotes a considerable amount of time discussing the use of the image filters supplied with the program. Readers are taken on an in-depth step-by-step walk through their use. A color illustrated section provides some amazing special effects anyone can create on their own with very little effort involved! This Paint Shop Pro reference guide is clearly and concisely organized, making it easy to follow. In fact it is somewhat easier to read through and understand than the original owner's manual. If you are looking for additional assistance with Paint Shop Pro this book is for you. Before spending big bucks on a more advanced graphics program, consider putting Paint Shop Pro and this book to use. Both are highly recommended for the beginner!

not for the total beginner,

Good book if you have a bit of hands on with this program. I would not say it is a good book for the total beginner...some of the examples are a bit hard to follow. It is a REFERENCE book not a insparational book. You should have some idea of what you want to do. It is organized in logical sections and subjects were easy to find. Even with the programs manual, this is a good book to have handy. I think it should have been spiral bound to lay flat tho, I hate having to set something on it to keep it flat while I work. The book is not in color but there are center pages that have color examples. Yes I would buy it again if I lost it.
