4.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed it
I enjoyed this book a lot. Sure it's a little outdated, but paintball ain't that complicated, folks, and this book explains the basics clearly. It also provides some good ideas for non-Capture the Flag games and general team motivation and strategies. I definitely recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars This Book Is Old
This book is very old.Paintball is a sport that is drastecally growing and changing. This book is not up to date because it has got pictures of old guns that are pumps that use 12 Gram CO2 and only hold 10 Paintballs at a time. This book shows that it is ok to where shop goggles instead of face masks.Newbies should not get this book because if you did you would show up...

3.0 out of 5 stars Old, but still fun to read., December 12, 2000

OK so it is really out dated, but I enjoyed reading it. It's not something that would get you ready for your next big tournament, but it has some great "rec ball" scenarios.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good book for painball basics, though highly outdated, June 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Paintball!: Strategies & Tactics (Paperback)
I enjoyed the book very much. It is excellent for anybody who is starting thier first team or is rather new to the sport. Do realize that this book was written ORIGINALLY close to 10 years ago. The sport has dramatically changed and so has the equipment. A lot of the tactics in the book are still used today even by Professional teams. There are tactics in the book that are very outdated though with the advent of semi and full auto, direct fed paintball markers. Also, check with your local field about some of the rules of the game that Mr. Barnes mentions in his book. They may not be part of the game anymore. (IE: Red paint and yelling "Dead man" instead of "hit") Realise that paintball is a sport of teamwork, comraderie, and most of all, FUN! We do not condone war, death, or any other such terrible images that USED to be associated with our sport. (Circa early '80's) Thanks for the forum! Please note: I don't in any way think Mr. Barnes is condoning war in his book. It's just that paintball STARTED out as a survival game. It is not that way anymore

The revised edition is excellent. Other than a few things that are out of date (e.g., charging is less effective now with semi-automatic markets than it was then with pumps), everything else is current and excellent advice for paintballers. Certainly worth the price of a couple hundred paintballs, for sure. Make sure to read this one and pass it on to your team.

2.0 out of 5 stars it was ok...., September 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Paintball!: Strategies & Tactics (Paperback)
The book was ok but lacked enough to keep me interested. It kept going over the same old stuff that most paintballers know allready. If yer a newbie who has money to burn and time to waste, get this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Old but Interesting, May 2, 2000
This review is from: Paintball!: Strategies & Tactics (Paperback)
Don't get this book if you are looking to improve your game. "The Complete Guide to Paintball" is for that. This book is mainly interesting because it is an artifact from long times ago (10 years or so). Following the advice in this book will get you hurt, so please don't. But if you are wondering how the game was once played, and what made it, arguably, more fun then today, give it a look. It also has some very nice diagrams about flanking and field of fire.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ehhhhhhhh..... It could have been better, January 29, 2000

This book was written back when it was OK to wear shop goggles instead of paintball goggles/mask combos.Because of this this it should be updated or stopped being printed to prevent new players from getting the wrong idea and hurting themselves. I did like the stratigies and the scenerio games were pretty good.Unfortunatly the book was extremely slow and too repetitive.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written, simple minded, like a middle school kid wrote it, September 6, 2009
This review is from: Paintball!: Strategies & Tactics (Paperback)
Decent ideas but honestly not worth publishing (or buying). I found it too boring to read and just brainstormed with my friends instead of refering to the book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Outdated but not useless, August 20, 2008

This review is from: Paintball!: Strategies & Tactics (Paperback)
This book was written back when semi-automatic markers were just beginning to appear, so most of the info is severely dated (unless you are looking to improve your stock-class game). That said, the chapters where Barnes discusses tactics and scenario ideas are still useful. However, the same tactics are also discussed in more modern guides. You would be better served passing this over unless you are going to use it to improve your stock game.
