Zig rules!!,
By S. L. Smith "SansSerif" (Back Home Again, United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Paintbrush (Audio CD)
Buy this CD even if only for the two cuts "Ride That Rail" and "With My Eyes Closed". Who would have thought Zig's voice could actually be made to sound better, but an accordian, a mandolin, and Gregory Douglass's backing vocals do so on "Ride That Rail". Zig's songs are always kind and surprising, yet hubby Geoff Sather's contributions make this even more of a stand-out. Pardon me for being stuck on "Ride That Rail", but the way Zig's voice takes off and sails over the strings and drums is pure candy for the ears. She can really belt out the notes in her folksy understated way. Buy this, and her other CDs ("Sting of The Honeybee" and "These Are The Roots") and learn what all the buzz is about Diane Zeigler; she consistently provides the gift of organic, solid, gentle, original music for those of us who expect more from the current industry.

Amazing new CD by Diane Zeigler,
By Rachel E. Castle (montpelier, VT United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Paintbrush (Audio CD)
All of Diane's CD's are wonderful both lyrically and musically. "Paintbrush" however, is her finest work to date. The songs are her most personal and poignant. I really didn't think that I could like an album more than "These are the roots", but "Paintbrush" blows away my expectations of a Zig CD. "Ride That Rail" starts out the album with a great beat and leads into the amazing fiddle playing of Sarah Blair on "Indian Paintbrush". My personal favorite, "It grew in front of me" ends with a haunting solo by Nell Sather. As always, Diane's voice is captivating and addictive. As one fan said "I just can't get enough of Diane's music." BUY THIS CD FOR YOURSELF AND ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS! I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't love it.

Vividly painted images of life,

Diane Zeigler's latest album is wonderful collection of songs that illuminate life experiences. I particularly enjoyed her use of images from nature, but this is just one aspect of what she's incorporated into these songs (I wish I could write like this). Every song has something to offer. Diane's voice is, as always, rich and expressive. This CD is quite an accomplishment - especially for a home project. My favorite CD this year. Highly recommended.

Don't Miss It!,

"Paintbrush" is a great cd. It is Diane Zeigler's strongest to date in some ways, but each of her other albums is uniquely powerful, too. "Ride That Rail" and "Indian Paintbrush" excel in the richness of their music--you'll be singing along, like it or not. Both "Kathleen" and "It Grew in Front of Me" are autobiographically poignant and will grip your heart each time you listen. Diane's lyrics never fail: her topics tackle life's roller-coaster, always nailing her emotions with a bull's eye. "Silence", where she beautifully, ironically laments not finding the right words to explain, but does so perfectly, might be my favorite, though it is hard to choose. Don't hesitate. Buy this cd.

Diane's new CD is filled with beautiful music that is heartfelt and fun! She makes songwriting look easy, and sings in a natural yet strong way, and has included lots of wonderful back-up musicians as well, including a wonderful Irish fiddler. Worth a buy for yourself and for friends who love contemporary folk music from the soul.

They Keep Getting Better,
By
This review is from: Paintbrush (Audio CD)
This is her third album and it just takes the foundation started with the others and builds on it. Diane not only is the artist, but along with her husband/ partner in music, Geoff Sather, produced this disc in their home studio. I enjoyed the whole disc, but in particular Prickly Pine, With My Eyes Closed and Say It Ain't So. The songs (and the others) showcase her beautiful voice and her talent with the guitar. In back supporting her are Geoff along with many others helping along the way. Bottom line, if you are a fan of the singer-songwriter genre buy this disc. And if you haven't gotten the first two yet, get them also.

If you liked her before, you'll love her now.,

This disc is not a carbon copy of her earlier work (Sting Of The Honeybee and These Are The Roots)it's more of a continuation. She did much of the recording at her home along with her accomanpianist, co-producer her husband. They have created a CD that deserves the name Paintbrush- it brings to life the images that are written about in the songs. Some are autobigrahical, some are about other family members and some are about other subjects. Buy this album. you'll enjoy it. If you get a chance to she diane Zeigler in concert go- I'm hoping she gets back to NJ soon. |
