Good follow-up to their self-titled album,

For all definitely interested Western States Motel first-timers, I suggest heading over to Amazon's page for their self-titled album; it is a splendid full-length album.
Hailing from somewhere on the west coast (probably not San Diego), this band of which little is known, classifies themselves as "Concrete/Rock/Western Swing." Western swing? I don't know what that is, but if this is it, then it's sure good. The word "swing" never once crossed my mind when listening to this Indie group. But what do I know? Perhaps their genre can only be understood through listening, so see if you can search for their video, "Powerlines." It should give you a good sense of their style. I wish this CD was longer, but I can see why it's not. Though good, this half-album is not quite the home run that was their self-titled CD. It is both a shame and a beautiful thing that this band is widely unknown. One additional note, if you get the CD version, the album sleeve makes for a great piece of art - mine is proudly displayed on my bookcase. |
