Book Description

Psyche Middleton has always been judged by her looks. When she meets a guy that can make himself invisible, she must decide if love is truly blind. He takes her a palace in an idyllic kingdom, but his affection has one condition—she may not see him.

Enchanted, intrigued and not wholeheartedly believing he’s real, she betrays his trust for a glimpse of his face, and ends up at the mercy of his controlling mother. Psyche must complete three impossible tasks to prove her love—or die trying.

"A captivating retelling that will surely make an old myth a new favorite" ~ Kelly Hashway, author of Touch of Death

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute yumminess... August 30, 2012
By Shane
Are you willing to trust in what the eyes can't see, but allow yourself to fall intensely into a story about love and other things supernatural? Exquisitely written and undoubtedly original, Painted Blind stirs up an interesting take on belief while keeping readers entertained along the way.

This was a very fascinating story. I got so caught up I didn't want to leave the novel for a second. It just kept getting better, heating up as it moved along. Yes, the emotions were a bit instant, but I enjoyed it regardless. I loved the world building; the mythological appeal meshed with modern attractions. The fact that Psyche got to travel and explore the unearthly as well as the realistically exotic places. Everything about the story was entertaining, addicting, lovable, and impressive.

Psyche (great name) was a likable main character. She's not exactly from a perfect home but the bond she shares with her father was just wonderful. I admired her need to to be honest and open to him, along with her friend. But sometimes that openness made her impulsive when it came to telling the truth (too much of it). I've never read a story where the supernatural wasn't exactly kept in secret by the main character. That piqued my interest more, I think. But at the same time I had mixed feelings about Psyche sharing so much, especially with Savannah. And my oh my, that Savannah was a piece of work. I always questioned her so-called friendship with Psyche and even screamed "no!" when she decided to share such a sweet discovery with the two-faced chick. So, when Savannah met her demise I was far from shocked, more happy to be rid of her from the story (sorry for my bluntness, and possibly spoiler). She had it coming.

Okay, enough about the girls.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Star Retelling of Psyche and Eros August 28, 2012
Let me start by saying wow! This book was so different than anything else that I've read (in a good way). I love retellings of Ancient Greek mythology, and Painted Blind is a modern version of the Psyche and Eros myth. This retelling is so well done. I literally read it in one sitting.

I don't want to go into the story-line to much beyond the above posted synopsis. I don't want to give anything away, and if you're familiar with Psyche and Eros, you probably have an idea of what is going to happen. I will tell you about the characters, and about the writing though.

Psyche made a choice she is a little embarrassed about now. We've all been there at some point - we're out of town on vacation and do something daring or out of know - the whole "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" kind of thing. We don't expect it to catch up with us when we return home. In Psyche's case, her behavior while out of town catches up with her in a big way! Along with being daring, Psyche is also independent and fun. She has normal teenage insecurities, but she's not one of those gorgeous girls that tries to get attention all the time by saying how ugly she is. She's very real. A normal teenage girl that a lot of us can relate to.

Erik, our hero, saves Psyche from her embarrassing moment. He is mysterious and quiet. We don't always know what he's feeling or thinking. He wants a girl that will love him for who he is, and not what he looks like. Trust is very important to Erik. I can't tell you more about what happens without giving the story away. Will Psyche keep Erik's trust? Is Psyche the girl Erik is looking for? You will have to read Painted Blind to find out.

The world building in this book is amazing. The story-line is so well done.

3.0 out of 5 stars A magical retelling! May 28, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
More of my reviews can be found on my blog @

This books was given to me via Netgalley by the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review. Thank you, Createspace.

I felt the breath slipping out of me. My chest constricted. I tried to scream, but nothing came out. Strong arms grabbed me from behind. I fought hard. I was not going to be dragged into some frat house.
"Don't be afraid," a voice murmured in my ear. "I'll get you out of here."
I saw the sleeves of black leather jacket and a hand that bore a single gold band around the first finger.
Then we disappeared.

This book had its pros and cons, but all in all I liked it. It's definitely directed to a younger audience, but if you like myths, fairy tales and re-tellings like I do, "Painted Blind" is probably something you'd enjoy as an adult as well.

It's based on the myth of Eros and Psyche. There are some twists and turns to the story and it has a contemporary touch too. Erik was probably the number one character I liked, I also enjoyed Aseas, Titus and Psyche's Dad. They were all a delight to read about. I, quite honestly, hated Samatha, Psyche's best friend, from the very start and I cannot say I was suprised by her little betrayal. Got to say 'I told you so!' to the book while grinning. Heh.. I like when I can guess some elements, but not the whole story. That sucks. Well, with re-tellings you probably know the general idea, but it's nice to see some suprising twists in the plot.

All right, so it had some very cool fantasy elements and I absolutely fell in love with Erik's kingdom. It was stunning! There are two worlds combined in this book - our modern mortal world and an ancient immortal world.
