Don't waste your time with the other inferior books on Painter 5, this is the book you'll grow to love. Even if you're a beginner or not especially artistic, this book will have you doing things you never thought you could do. The fact that the author and publisher have added a special update to their website for the new feaures in version 5.5 makes me all the more happy that I bought this book. You won't be disappointed either. This book does the near impossible by taking a complicated, multi-layered program and making it seem easy and within your ability to master. And it also makes it fun!

This book is the best book on Painter 5! Examples are easy to follow. I do find new tricks in this book. Good for beginners and intermediate readers. I got a book called Painter 5 f/x which is very bad. I am looking forward to buy the Painter 6 Wow Book.

This is an excellent book on using Painter 5 that will satisfy most of the users with its easy to follow topics and detailed techniques. I have checked some 7 or 8 books on this topic, and can say that this Threinen-Pendarvis' book appears to be the best choice. Included CD is also packed with good stuff (brushes, etc.). If you are a beginner, I would suggest "Fractal Design Painter 5" by C.Braverman and D.Erdos as a companion to the "Painter 5 Wow" (which is more appropriate for an intermediate to expert user).

I love this book. It contains tons of hints, tips and lots of different techniques. It also has a lot of color reference pictures and artwork. Instructions are clear and easy to follow, but some experience with painter will help a lot. For a smaller book, it covers a lot of ground. It contains several different traditional art techniques with information on to make each brush look as realistic as possible by using different settings. It also has instructions on how to apply scanned paper textures, color a scratch board, & make hot beveled metal. It covers create a tide pool, melt text in water, make a cloned mosaic, use light to add dimension & make draping weave as well.

Painter 5 Wow! is an incredible book that combines a myriad of tips and techniques from a wide variety of Painter artists and designers. Cher Threinen-Pendarvis, a multi-talented artist herself, pulled together the best information available and produced yet another must-have Painter reference book that will not collect dust on your bookshelf! (Not to mention all of the goodies she's included on the CD!) Painter 5 is an unparalleled computer graphics program IMHO that needs to be savored and explored to unlock it true potential. This book will help you do that with confidence and you will soon find yourself creating artwork that you never thought possible.

I had 'Painter 5 Complete' for years, never used the app much till lately, so
I went looking for a decent book, 'Complete' got bad reviews, but it has
some step-by-step things 'Wow' doesn't, however 'Wow' has color on
every page, 'Complete' has about 15 pages of color, neither of them are
for beginners though, for instance 'Wow' page 54 says, 'expand the brushes
menu to show the submethod' but doesn't mention that there's a little
box in the upper right corner that expands. Luckily I take screenshots
of everything I do and name them, and I had found this little box before.

If you only get 1, 'Wow' is way better than 'Complete', especially now you can get it for a penny. Be sure to find the 'metacreations painter classic fix'
because certain old apps won't run on Win 2000, XP and Vista.

I bought this book after buying the Photoshop WOW book and it did not meet to my expectations. A good book but it's too short in explanatios. It would had been a better book if the projects would had been explained a bit in more detail. Still a good book for advance users.

All the good books about graphics software have one thing in common - they discuss project by project since that is the only way to learn to use the software. Astonishing power of Painter has been illustrated here decently. Good book.

Easy step-by-step examples with plenty of illustrations as samples!! Easy to use...excellent!!
