Though it's not clear from the title, this is a compilation of three previous Studio Vista books by the same authors: Oil Painting (1992), Painting Still Life in Oils (1994), and Portraits in Oils (1994). Thus, any genre (such as landscapes) not emphasized in the earlier volumes is slighted here as well. Buying this volume may be less expensive than buying the three, but the result is not the comprehensive book the title implies. Many others, like Ettore Maiotti's The Oil Painting Handbook: Learning from the Masters (Clarkson Potter: Crown, 1990), are more satisfying.
