Compact, useful, essential much better than many other titles. Provides you with the basics & essentials, based on experience and knowledge.

This is an oldie but a goodie.
Some of the information contained within it is out of date or hasn't been fully explored.
But most of the book is filled with very good, concise and short descriptions of the basic and also more esoteric aspects of traditional art making, given with enough scientific clarification in order for it to fill the 'quick reference' category.

For my research on Chinese painters and painting techniques I am in China. Taking a copy of this book with me as a reference work, now I end up buying it again for some of my Chinese friends. They are all very interested in this still very accurate and usefull book for restorers and other people working with Art. The coverage of materials is very complete.
