I heard about Qua at my record store and I'm psyched to have picked up a copy. Qua is in the vein of IDM electronica - his beat structures are very unusual. But it's a very warm, ambient and organic style sound - combining the bulbous pops you'd expect from Mouse on Mars with string-instruments or soft drums for percussion. Devil Eyes, the song that first tuned me into his stuff, has a definite Asian flair in it's string percussion. Overall I highly recommend it for an electronica fan - the IDM folks will find themselves delighted by the unusual timing while ambient folks will enjoy the overall calm melodies. Now go buy it already...

Those who are reading reviews of this CD may have discovered Qua through the various insane videos by Paul Robertson. As many of fans of Mr. Robertson know, Cornel Wilczek (aka Qua) does the music for many, if not all of his videos. Because of these videos you may be inclined to think that this CD features lots of hardcore and old school arcade style music. This album does NOT contain music of this sort. Most of the music found in Painting Monsters on Clouds are ambient and calming such as the song Devil Eyes - used in one of Paul Robertson's calmer (although graphic) music videos.

Anyway, the music itself, although not what I expected, contains many interesting beats and nonrhythmic sounds that remind me of calm and beautiful places that don't exist. definitely expect music similar to Devil Eyes rather than KINGS OF POWER 4 BILLION, not for the hardcore.
