This review is from: Painting Sea and Shore : A Complete Guide to the Technique of Marine Painting in Oils (Hardcover)
I got this book in my quest to paint seascapes, it has good basic information. Personally now that my eye has become more educated, I don't think much of his actual seascapes which to me are rather leaden. But his boats and harbors are very good and if you are into that you will like that section which is a major part of the book. I'm keeping it for that reason. This book is the compilation of his two books one of the sea and one of boats and harbors, most of the illustrations are B and W and the color that is there is pretty awful. If you want a book that's really much better for a painter IMO it's the Curtis book How to Paint Successful Seascapes, Curtis is a fine teacher and Movalli who edited it did a wonderful job of bringing a feeling of being right there with the instructor.
