I bought this book because I wanted to know more about wood finishes that would stand up under harsh conditions (specifically, chainsaw-carved yard art). I got some of what I wanted, and I learned more about boat maintenance than I'll ever need to know given that I have never owned even a rowboat.

The book is engaging. Interesting side trip into a foreign universe, that of wooden boats and the people who build lives around them.

I'm just getting starting on wooden boat maintenance and this book has proved extremely useful so far. Although, I haven't read it all the way through, every time I have a question, I look it up, and it's there. Definitely a good book for a newbie.
