5.0 out of 5 stars Great tutorial for painting water in all of its guises
Reading the other review, I had to provide some balance. This book teaches a very impressionist version of representing water. The colors used are naturalkistic and the waterscapes are varied--from mtn. brooks to raging seas smashing against high cliffs. It's an excellent book and I learned a great deal from it.

This review is from: Painting Water in Watercolour (Hardcover)
Teaches a very "British" style of realistic watercolor. Covers still water, moving water, lakes, seaside villages, surf, cliffs and waves, etc. The paintings are uneven, some a bit muddy with umber mixtures. Not a great book to learn about painting water from since it is actually a more general landscape book. In fact, the one demonstration painting is a painting of a house--no water. The clincher is that the white water of surf is rendered with gobs of white gouache--literally gooey gobs. This is not transparent watercolor technique. Oh yea-the shadows under the waves are done in burnt umber!!!? Avoid. I want my money back!!!!
