2.0 out of 5 stars Sai Quality
During practice We were working on throwing the sai to stop an opponent at the feet and one of the sais' bent . I suggest buying a little thicker set of sais' if you are going to be using them for actual use and training.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for subtly infiltrating bases without being noticed, January 14, 2012

This review is from: Pair (2) New Sais 21" Black Octagon Martial Arts Ninja Sai (Misc.)
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a ninja, I'm just part of a vigilante team made up of selected skilled warriors who protect the world from evil. When I fight I normally prefer just to use my twin tiger hook swords with a rope dart, arm gauntlets, throwing axe, a dozen shurkins, blow gun with chloroform dipped throwing blow darts, and the Force.
Now after our fight with the Junkyard Monks in China (a tribe of monks turned evil warriors who scavenge through trash for materials to make their deadly make shift weapons) the Chinese government busted on the scene before we could finish the fight, and the Junkyard Monks escaped. The dang Chinese government then proceeded to confiscate all of our weapons and put us in prison. One of of members who was monitoring the situation at our secret base hidden in a large snow crevas on a large barren island in Canada that no one really cares about informed the international authorities and pretty soon almost the whole world knew about our case. There ended up being a large debate about our actions, our motives, what we were doing and why, and the fight to bear arms. After a few weeks (and a lot of Amnesty International letters) we were freed and the Chinese government gave us a paid plane trip to the U.S. where they celebrated our release, and promised that they would send all of our belongings back to us (I also think they might be making a movie off of the story).
Unfortunately, it would be a l very long time before they arrived, and one of our spys infiltrated the Junkyard Monks data system, and discovered that they were building a huge dangerous contraption that they were going to use to rule the world. They had started building it on an small, unnoticed island in the Pacific, and only need one more piece to complete it. Our leader and some of us devised a battle strategy, and I was one of ones assigned to breach their outside defenses. We still didn't have our tools, and the Chinese government gave us a measly $1000 to compensate for our troubles, but after the money it took to get us back to base, and after it was split among us it ended up being $25 for all of us each. Out team leader told us that if we wanted any "tools" for the mission, we were going to have to order them online for $25 or under, and they would have to arrive before late Friday (we had a designated spot where we'd pick up our shipments). He also said that they had found the important member of ours that had gone missing a few years back, he had been captured by the Junkyard Monks (oh the irony) and had been brainwashed to thinking he was one of them, and was employed as one of the guards, but we didn't know which one. So we had to order non-lethal (or at least not sharp) tools to take with us. Well I knew that a lot of the outside guards carried makeshift PVC pipe bo-staffs. My training has included sais, and I knew they were great against bo-staffs, and I also knew were were infiltrating at night, so glossy silver sais would give away my position, and I only had a $25 dollar budget, so I decided to buy these. I wasn't expecting much, but it had free two-day shipping so I knew it would arrive on Friday, since I ordered it on Tuesday (the order probably reached the guys that shipped it on Wednesday, and it shipped on Wednesday and arrived mid Friday).
When it arrived at the designated shipping spot I was a bit confused because the box was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. But when I opened it there was a smaller box inside that contained the sais. They arrived in good condition, they weren't damaged or anything. The handle wrap was okay, and I kept it like it was, but I cut off the gold string because it could give away my position. When we were traveling to the site I was practicing technique, and I was wondering how much they could take (doubting whether they could even penetrate grass). It turn out they can penetrate grass. When we snuck through the wilderness, I used them to disarm and knock out a wandering guard before he could alert the other troopers. I also threw them at a person's feet and tripped him up so I could knock him out. I also broke several of their bo-staffs and jabbed the control systems of the machines with these as well.
These proved to be really useful and really helped with the battle. If it weren't for these, the world could of been ruled by a bunch of nerds. So you can kind of thank these for sort-of saving the world. However, the end of the handle is still crooked, and the prongs aren't even width, plus they are made in China which made me feel uncomfortable about giving money to the economy of a country that imprisoned me and took my stuff, which is why they get 4 stars.

These have some weight to 'em--heavier than I expected. Pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Warning, though--the black paint does flake off just a little if you bang them hard enough against something It's thick, though, and they're durable, but not invincible.

3.0 out of 5 stars These are very very light, August 26, 2011

These are not for strike practice of any kind. They might be good for practicing new, difficult moves. They will not provide much physical conditioning.

I loved these, they were nice and light at the tip and a bit weightier at the handle. I was used to using the chrome thick sais but once I got these I had no trouble getting used to them.
