I have mixed feeling about these Banana plugs, the quality seems to be good, but there are no instructions on how to install them and I could see several ways of doing it, so what I did was I took the whole thing completely apart , I slipped the jacket onto the wires insulation being sure to get the direction correct for the jacket, and moving it up the wire out of the way, then striping alittle more than 1/4 inch of the insulation away from the wire, flare the wire over 3/4 of the back end of the gold plated plug, being careful not to cover the screw hole in the process, with any wire, then you sip the cover back over the wire and the plug, line up the guide hole and screw in the retaining screw..I used 14 gauge wire and the plug was fairly secure but I do not advise pulling out the plug by holding onto the wire, you need to pull the plug out by grasping the plug itself other-wise the wire could pull out. 12 gauge wire should give you a tighter fit but may also be harder to slip the jacket over the plug during install..thinner wire such as 16 or 18 gauge may not work, but I was thinking that with something like 16 gauge you could tie a knot in the wire and pull it back until the knot is in the guide hole then slip the jacket over, this should give you a secure enough fit that it won't come out as the knot would keep it from slipping, and would not stick out because it would be lodged inside the guide hole...

Best for the money, but,

I used 12 gauge Leitz (multi-stranded) wire, but you must tin the wires (with soldering iron and solder) at the ends that stick into the plug otherwise the wires will pull out even when it seems tight when installed. Also, screw down the set screw with a good amount of pressure to make sure the wire stays connected. If the speaker end comes loose and shorts during use, it is probably good bye to that channel.

This review is from: 4 Qty (2 Pairs) Atlona 4mm Gold Speaker Wire Cable Banana Plugs Connectors (Electronics)
I needed some banana plugs for my Polk RTI series speakers that had a nice, wide cross-section to them. All the other banana plugs I've tried have fairly narrow tips, which makes them easy to slide in but on some speakers are too loose causing contact problems. The wide cross section of these plugs have made the connections good and tight to my speakers, now when my speakers get dusted I don't have to fiddle with the wires to get my speakers working properly again! They also have a nice set screw design that holds the wire firmly. Cons: Shipping price per pair is high, and you don't get a break for ordering multiple pairs. Shipping easily exceeds the cost of the item no matter how many you order.
