Quintessential "west coast" jazz,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pal Joey (Audio CD)
This style of music was called "west coast" jazz when I first heard the group in the 60's. These guys are playing carefull arranged music from printed charts. The improvization is constrained in time and played over background by the other players. Essentially, this is a "cool" jazz -- music for your head. If you like that kind of jazz you will love this recording. The arrangements are very well done. The tunes are well rehearsed and tightly played by all of the members of the group. The musicians are all very talented both as ensamble players and soloests.
I have always loved this recording. I had the vynal and played it literally to death. I looked for a replacement copy for years -- no decades -- and was overjoyed to find it re-released. |
