Long poem,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Palamon and Arcite (Kindle Edition)
This very long poem is a cover version of The Knight's Tale, the first of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. It's about two men who are after the same woman. Dryden's version was published in 1700. If you like very long poems with bouncing rhythms and rhyming words than this is a fairly good one, but I must confess that I tend to read the first few pages, roll my eyes and then do a lot of skimming. The introduction to this book is very good- it has info on the politics, society and literature during Dryden's lifetime, a biography of him, an analysis of his works, references and a chronology of English history and literature during his lifetime.A play called The Two Noble Kinsman which is now attributed to Shakespeare is another cover version of this story. I recommend that one over this one since I much prefer a play to a long poem. |
