About the Author

Henry Z (Hank) Jones, Jr., F.A.S.G., has been actively climbing the family tree since he was eight years old. After his graduation from Stanford University, Hank had a twenty-year career first as a recording artist on RCA Records, then as an actor, appearing in eight Walt Disney films and many television shows that still come back to haunt him today via cable tv. His years of work pursuing and documenting 18th century German Palatine emigrants have resulted in several books, including The Palatine Families of New York - 1710 (Jacobus Award winner as Best Genealogical Book of the Year), The Palatine Familes of Ireland, More Palatine Families, Westerwald To America, the three-volume Even More Palatine Families, and his best-selling Psychic Roots: Serendipity & Intuition in Genealogy (featured on NBC-TV's Unsolved Mysteries) and its new sequel More Psychic Roots: Further Adventures in Serendipity & Intuition in Genealogy. He has served both as a Director of the Genealogical Speakers' Guild and as a Trustee of the Association of Professional Genealogists. Hank recently received the Award of Merit from the National Genealogical Society in recognition of distinguished work in genealogy. In 1986 he was honored to have been elected a Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists, of whom there are only fifty in the world.

More About the Author

Henry Z "Hank"Jones, Jr., F.A.S.G.)

Henry Z ("Hank") Jones, Jr. has been actively climbing family trees since the age of eight, and, since his graduation from Stanford, has specialized in tracing 18th century German emigrants. His books on the subject include The Palatine Families of Ireland, the two-volume The Palatine Families of New York - 1710 (winner of the Donald Lines Jacobus Award as "Best Genealogical Work of the Year"), More Palatine Families, Westerwald To America, and his brand new three volume set Even More Palatine Families. Hank has written many articles over the years that have appeared in The American Genealogist, National Genealogical Society Quarterly, The New York Genealogical & Biographical Record and other major publications. He recently received the NGS Award of Merit for "Distinguished Work in Genealogy" and has been elected a Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists, of whom there are only fifty in the world. Hank has served on the national board of the Genealogical Speaker's Guild and as a Trustee of the Association of Professional Genealogists.

As to his "other life" apart from genealogical research, Hank Jones was a film actor for twenty-five years. He appeared in many movies, among them eight films for Walt Disney studios (such as "Blackbeard's Ghost," in which he costarred with Peter Ustinov, Dean Jones, & Suzanne Pleshette). He was a familiar face on nearly 500 national tv commercials and has been featured on over 300 network tv shows such as "My Three Sons," "Family Affair," "Petticoat Junction, " "Mod Squad," "The Patty Duke Show," "Mork & Mindy," "The Jeffersons," and "Love Boat" which still come back to haunt him on cable tv today. His new book Memories - The Show-Biz Part Of My Life tells of some of his off-the-wall experiences working with major stars such as Henry Fonda, Ron Howard, Robin Williams, Patsy Cline, Bob Hope, Minnie Pearl, Ringo Starr, and Elvis Presley. Hank also was active as a singer, co-starring on ABC-TV's Tennessee Ernie Ford Show and recording albums on RCA and Capitol Records. His newest CDs are currently released on Epitomé Records.

Hank's best seller, Psychic Roots: Serendipity & Intuition in Genealogy, a study of how intuitive nudges and serendipitous events sometimes influence our genealogical searches, is now in its 9th printing. It was dramatized on NBC's "Unsolved Mysteries" program to good response from inside and outside the genealogical community and continues to be rebroadcast on cable tv to this day. Its sequel, More Psychic Roots: Further Adventures in Serendipity & Intuition in Genealogy", drawn from his own experiences and those of over 200 other family historians from around the world, has just been published by Genealogical Publishing Company in Baltimore.

TIME Magazine recently had a cover-story devoted to genealogy in the new millennium and chose to close the article and tie things together with a quote from - Hank Jones.

If you have German ancestors in the Hudson River Valley prior to 1800 this is one of the most detailed and comprehensive books available. Over 800 familes included often with 3-4 generations of information including orgins back in German often with 2-3 more generations of information. One of the best sourced books available. Henry Jones is to be commendend for this important work. I have at least 12 family groups listed in this book and was lucky to have it provide in two volumes a huge amount of information directly to related to me. Others may not have so many connections here but if you believe you have even one or two this book will most certainly provide you much information. It also is a valuable read just for the introduction which provide many good tips on researching German famlies in the area and in Pennsylvania.

Very meticulously researched by renowned genealogical author and lecturer. Covers the German/Palatine immigrants before the American Revolution. Presented under family surnames. Much more informative than non-indexed lists.

I had been struggling to find accurate and detailed information regarding a large part of my family tree. Through record searches (and plenty of soul searching), I happened upon this book (books, actually.) They have been invaluable to my Palatine families research and discovery, as well as explaining the variations and usage of first and last names.

Hank Z. Jones, Jr. thoroughly explains where all of his information is derived, and provides a complete list of resources, people, circumstances and stories regarding his sources. He is an impressive genealogist. These books are one of the Few resources I feel comfortable relying on in my pursuit of my family's Palatine history.

In the first book, Jones provides some stories and letters which really provide context and a sense of reality to what many of the New York (and other) Palatines experienced and why. I found it to be as interesting as the genealogical information I was searching for in the first place.

By the way, for those who may be looking to buy just volume one or two instead of purchasing the two volume set...Don't! It seems that it was written as a single volume which would not fit into a single binding. Meaning, there is detailed historical information in the beginning of volume one, and the only index of names (which you will want) is only at the end of the second volume. To purchase only one of the books will be doing yourself a disservice.

I purchased the books directly from Hank Z. Jone's personal site. He is really quick to respond in mailing the books, and to any email you send to him. Impressive purchase all around!
