Book Description

May 1995
The American Indians loved to share stories around the campfire, both as a major form of entertainment and as the means for passing on tribal history, culture and beliefs. The modern reader has found their ageless creations myths, legends, war ceremonies, trickster and hero tales no less enchanting than those who first told and heard them centuries ago. John Long and his researchers reviewed over one hundred renowned anthologies in compiling Pale Moon, and the result is a unique collection grounded in the bedrock of ancient culture, pulsating with nature's indomitable energy and the soul's struggle with the Great Mystery. The themes are as old as fire itself and are part of mankind's heritage--literary, ethnic, folkloric. The telling of them maks living myths.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Intended Audience Should Beware!, April 25, 2003

This review is from: Pale Moon: Tales of the American Indians (Paperback)
While most of this book is totally appropriate for young audiences, there is one severe drawback. One story tells in rather graphic detail about a young girl being tricked into her first sexual encounter. The probable audience for this book could definitely be children with an interest in native americans. Nothing about the book would warn an educator or parents about the graphic content.
