In my opinion, still Stuart Woods' best work! Palindrome is an edge-of-your-seat, stay-up-till-4 a.m.-to-finish book. Woods does an excellent job of integrating the characters and plot with the physical setting to make a truly unique story. In fact, it is one of the most original suspense stories I have ever read. There are absolutely no lulls in this story. You will find yourself mezmerized from page one and unable to look away until you reach the conclusion. This book is much better than his newer releases (with the exception of Orchid Beach) Other great Stuart Woods works: Deep Lie, New York Dead, Chiefs, and Orchid Beach.

In Palindrome, Liz Barwick is married to a professional football player, named Bake Ramsey, who has beaten her for years. After an awful beating that sends Liz to the emergency room, she decides to leave her husband. She tries to find a place where Bake will never be able to find her, but after several gruesome murders, he is able to track her down.

Palindrome is an excellent piece of escape fiction by Stuart Woods. This exciting novel pulls the reader in with a fast-paced story that includes murder, mystery, and love. Stuart Woods provides the reader with sufficient information to keep the story interesting while still leaving the reader wanting to know more. This novel does not contain any profound thoughts on life's problems, but if you are looking for an exciting story, this is a good book to read.

Stuart Woods provides the reader with sufficient information to keep the story interesting while still leaving the reader wanting to know more. He also does an excellent job of integrating the characters and plot with the physical setting to make a truly unique story. The setting for this book is a small island off the coast of Georgia. This is where our main character Liz Barwick has escaped from her potentially dangerous husband, pro football player Bake Ramsey. After Liz has settled down in her newborn house on Cumberland Island, her memories begin to fade, but soon two murders of her close friends send Liz into a panic, and she feels her husband is trying to find her. Soon she discovers that there is no place to hide, not even on an isolated island. This book is full of expense and action, but does not suppress a hard reading level or any deep thought. I recommend this book to the exuberant reader, one that is searching for apprehension.

Although I love Stuart Wood's Stone Barrington novels, I must admit that once in awhile I like to read his other books that are based on different characters. This book was one of the fastest, most thrilling books I have read in a long time.

It focuses on Liz who is nearly beaten and raped to death by her husband who happens to be a famous football player who is drugged out on steroid and drugs. This books gives a creepy description of what steroids can do to an average person. Anyways, Liz escapes to Cumberland Island in order to get away from her vengeful ex-husband. On this island she gets involved with the Drummond family who have a few skeletons in their closet. As if that is not enough, Liz's husband is on the rampage looking for her to kill her. Will he find her? What is the secret between the Drummond twins, Hamish and Keir? Read this book and you will find out.

I found the dialogue laughable when Mr. Woods didn't intend it to be. The climax lasted about two pages. I figured out the "secret" of the twins before I was halfway through the book. There was so much fluff in this book that had nothing to do with the central plot that at the end I felt like I had been snookered into reading 300+ pages for a plot that actually took up maybe 50 pages. It took a willing suspension of disbelief to believe the villian turned into a vicious serial killer simply because his wife left him while he was on steroids. The cops in this book were comical characatures whose detective and interview skills matched that of a 10 year old. Mr. Woods should read a Michael Connelly novel before he tries writing cop scenes again. Woods is hit or miss and this was one of Woods' worst books. Stick with Chiefs and White Cargo. I read this book based on the reviews posted here and I was really, really disappointed.

It had a few slow spots, but all-in-all it was very entertaining. There are several things going on at one time, such as the "crazy ex" and a mystery surrounding the twins that caught me off guard. I will definitely try other books by this author.

I've read many of Stuart Woods books and enjoyed them very much. Palidrome was more than that though. Some friends and I shared a library copy of the unabridged recording of this book on our shift at work. Why do I mention this? Well, it's simple. This book was amazing! We were left spellbound as a group, each of us poking and proding each other all night as things developed in this story. The story is emotional as we were along on this journey with these characters. So many twists and turns left us gasping with those surprised, "OH's" that had our coworkers staring at us. The editorial comments above tell the basics of the story, so I wanted to share the experience of actually reading or listening to it being told. This story had us wrapped up in what was going on for the two nights we listened to it we probably worked more focused than we'd done before simply because our concentration was so involved with this story.
Personally this book had me crying my eyes out at work! I sat at my desk bawling my head off and happily doing so because I enjoyed this book so much. Unlike some of the other reviewers I wasn't expecting the twists and turns of the story, so it was great to have friends just as surprised as I was going through it with me.
Even a couple of years later we still remind each other every so often about this book and tell others about it. This story sticks in your head and makes you care about what is happening to the characters. I may have liked Stuart Woods before this book, but after this I love the way his mind works!

There is so much that kept me up late at night reading this book. Liz is a heroine anyone could relate to. We root for her in her starting a new life on this remote romantic island, an unforgettable love story soon takes place. If you enjoyed this book, read Mary Higgins Clark's "A Cry In The Night", another excellent book with the psycho husband theme!

I am a big Stuart Woods fan. I read this book in one day I couldn't put it down. The plot keeps you guessing and the ending is great! I would definately recommend this for anyone wanting a little mystery, suspense, and romance.

If you ever thought about reading a novel written by Stuart Woods and could only pick one, this is it. This was a great suspenseful, romantic and exciting book to read. The story is wonderfully crafted and I had a hard time putting it down. It is about Liz Barwick who has run away from an abusive marriage to a football star Bake Ramsey and is hiding for fear that he is coming after her to kill her. This is an amazing book and I would recommend it to anyone.
