Great for road warriors, July 1, 1999

I have the GSM version of the Palm Snap-on modem. It really frees yourself from being either bound to a clunky laptop or a phone jack.
Configuration is a snap, just plug and play after installing the software on your Palm device (and installing is so smooth).
After that, browsing the web with "Plamscape" or "Proxyweb" is great fun -- I did it during a train ride through Germany, e-mailing back and forth with a developer in Seattle -- cool :-)
My definitive recommendation if you want to double the fun with your Palm and be always connected.

Nice, compact modem, that works great!, May 5, 2000
This review is from: PalmOne PalmModem Accessory (Office Product)
You can't say much about it. It connects, and it has one button (for hotsync). All dialing and control done under the Palm III Preferences area. It is one nice, handy device. You can connect external modems to the Palm III PDA with the Modem cable. But Most modems and cable together exceed the cost of the Palm Modem. For the price, the Palm Modem is a great buy!
The modem, without any additional software, will just do remote Hotsyncs.
BUT.
There are many many programs out there for the Palm and it's modem. Many freeware.
I have a freeware Email program. It works with the modem to download email from your current Internet Service Provider. You need the information you got when you set up your desktop. You then read the mail with the Palm III standard Mail program. You can compose and send email too.
I have a freeware USENET program. I can use usenet anywhere now.
I have a program that downloads selected news and magazine websites...freeware...automatically.
And of course, a couple of web browsers, one with 128BIT SSL Security encryption too, just like my desktop. Freeware again!
Initially, you have to set up your modem on the Palm III Preferences. After that, to use it, you just connect it to the Palm III, connect it to a telephone line, turn on the Palm III, go to Preferences, Select "Connect", and off it goes.
Then you just select the Internet program you want and off you go!
It uses 2 AAA batteries, just like the Palm III. Stated life expectancy of batteries is 6 hours on time.
One great little device.
