More About the Author

Palm Beach Detective
Palm Beach's wealth attracts schemers and scammers, gigolos and beautiful women by the score. But most of all it is a place where rich people show off and have fun.
Our Palm Beach Detective follows two paths, first the pursuit of lust resulting in a loss of love and second the pursuit of an unknown who is planning to kill his best friend for a 4,000,000 insurance policy.
The bars, hot spots, and quirky people make for a great tale.
I promise you will wish for a sequel.

But you'll have to read through to the end to witness their delicious comeuppance. If you always suspected that insurance had its corrupt side, then you'll get an insider's look at how one of many possible life insurance scams might work and have lethal consequences to boot. Anthony, the novel's insurance investigator - smart, hard working and self-depreciating - is willing to take risks to find out what he needs to know. Women are attracted by his humility and by his willingness to be vulnerable with them. No James Bond who kills the villains and gets the woman at the end, Anthony takes his lumps, and like the rest of us, picks himself up and comes back for more. When you get to the end you'll hope, as I did, that author Erik Brown will deliver the sequel that this compelling story demands.

Life is different in Palm Beach and Erik Brown gives us a tantalizing taste. When people with large insurance policies are dying is it natural causes, accidents or is it murder for profit. The inside look at Palm Beach life is rich with local color, but it's the authors well-developed characters that truly make this book a fast paced and delightful read. Tony, the main character, is strong, but with a streak of vulnerability and a dash Casanova. The ending was one of the best I've read in a long time. Entertaining, well written and suspenseful, definitely leaves me wanting another book about the Palm Beach Detective.

Forget the gothic hollow-eyed specter on the cover. Inside the reader will be immersed in a page-turning mystery of a seamy side of the life insurance business. Brown has created a memorable urbane insurance investigator with a Harvard education and an eye for women. He captures the Palm Beach scene perfectly. From Bice and Taboo to Green's and Hamburger Heaven, Anthony, the investigator, navigates the glamour and the not-so-ordinary lifestyle that makes Palm Beach, Palm Beach. While body parts on the beach are not an everyday occurrence that's where Brown's story-telling and brisk style come in to create a great read.

Brown's investigator is such a likable rogue with a romantic side that this reader would like a sequel.

Well respected life insurance agent Erik Brown, uses his unique vantage point to penetrate the underworld of policy exchange by using the backdrop of glamourous Palm Beach parties, where class snobbery melts when profit is at stake.
He paints characters in crisp and cunning colors and enhances them through vulnerability and believable dialogue, and ends with a clever twist. A must read!

I have just finished Palm Beach Detective and found it to be a fantastic read. Being a retired Insurance Investigator I identified with the main character Tony as he uncovers a plot to have his friend Frank killed for his life insurance money. In doing so the invetigation expands to other people of wealth that are also dying for thier insurance policy money. If you live in Palm Baech area, Eric names all familiar business, streets and he makes you feel that you are right along investigating "shady people" in the sunny skies of Palm Beach.

Selling insurance policies to the elderly and wealthy in Palm Beach Florida is dicey at best. When Chicago area biggies start buying these policies as "investments" and the insureds start dieing "before their time" brings the insurance investigator to find out what is going on. The more he digs, the more dirt he finds. You will want to keep turning the pages until the end of the book. Good, suspenseful reading and a great description of the wealthy enclaves of Florida's east coast.

I've been in Palm Beach many times so I enjoyed the descriptions of life there.
And it was true-to-life. My great-aunt and her friend used to dress up once every six months and go for tea at The Breakers.
Hats, gloves, dressed to the 9's. It was a high-light of their year. :)

This was a good book, with betrayal around every corner. A bit of the mob, a bit of a scam, a few murders, a bit of violence, a bit of romance... the action keeps going until the very end of the book.

Fun and interesting read with a surprise ending. If you know the Palm Beach area you'll enjoy the references to the local scene. If you don't know Palm Beach you will after reading this book.
